Ok I know nothing about 1st Gen Tacomas, so go easy on me.

I have a co-worker with a '97 Tacoma who wants to go with a larger rim size so he can use a tire with a smaller sidewall. He currently runs 31 x 10.5 x 15 tires.

Assuming his 1997 Taco has 6 lugs:

    - Would my Stock 2nd Gen 17" Sport rims fit on his truck without any fitment issues?

    - Has anyone done this on a 1st Gen?

    - Can anyone recommend an inexpensive larger rim that he can use?

    - Can anyone recommend a tire and size that would keep everything at about the same height?

Thanks in advance for the help.

    1. Yes they will fit, assuming that he has a 4wd truck (Prerunner was not an option in 1997).
    2. My first truck, a 1996 Taco, came with a set of these from the previous owner. Didn't like the look so I sold them right away.
    3. No idea. The lug pattern is 6x5.5; maybe other members have ideas.
    4. 265/70/R17 is about 31.5"

Thanks for the info. I was doing some digging and saw that the sport rims have a 106.1 mm hub diameter and the factory 1st Gen wheels have a 100.6 mm hub. Would this be a problem?

I can only say that they worked on my first truck because that's what came with it. I've seen other members' trucks and some around VT with the rims as well.
I'd imagine that since the hub diameter is larger, it's really not an issue.

they will work as long as he uses the oem lug nuts. those will center the wheels onto the hub

I have the same rims on my 2001, the rears fit but the front upper a arms rubbed the tire. I installed wheel spacers and it fixed it. fyi
