Perhaps hard to believe, but according to the Hockey News, and as reported in this article, Las Vegas would appear to be a better market than most already established US markets.

what i dumb idea, should have put a team in Canada. Las Vegas is going to lose it sex appeal after couple seasons.

 

There is a reason that there are no professional sports teams in Vegas. It's a highly transient population who's economy is completely dependent on the tourism, gambling, and hospitality industries. I'm sure a good amount of those pledged season ticket buyers are casinos and hotels.

This. Today in the truck when I was riding with a coworker we talked at length about this. I'd be willing to bet a great deal of these seats end up in the hands of tourists for the first few years as complementary or hospitality rewards. Once a bigger draw is in town, like the NFL in 4 or 5 years, then the sales will trickle off.

Nope.

Most Canadian teams sell about 1/2 of their tickets to local businesses and the other half to fans. I can't remember where I saw it but US teams, particularly those in large corporate markets like New York, San Jose, LA, etc etc, tended to have more tickets in the hands of "transient" corporate holders rather than in private hands. Toronto would fall in that category as well.

 

Seattle has no rink and no ownership , hence no expansion bid submitted

 

Seattle wants a commitment before building an Arena. The NHL wants an Arena before committing a team. Hence nothing will happen in Seattle for years.

I would guess either the Hurricanes, Panthers, Coyotes, or Blue Jackets find themselves in Quebec in a few years anyways.

 

The Seattle people want an NBA team to share an NHL building too
