    Limited down travel... the washer inside the shock up front is what stops the ~100+ pounds of suspension from dropping down all the way. That washer doesn't last long and then the remnants of the spot weld that used to hold it on tears the crap out of the shock seals. Bumpy roads or potholes will let you hear the thunk made by the shock fully extending and stopping suspension travel.

    Found many threads a few weeks ago after doing some searching of people having the issue.

    The BP51 looks great, but doubt I'll be forking over more money for OME after using this crap when I can get another brand that seems to know what they are doing for the same price.

    Seemed like the OME setup was a good setup and I wouldnt need a full coilover. Lesson learned.

    @3378jakesr5

    Just saw the pictures of you guys moving the boulder from RimRocker. How did you guys move it, just roll it with the winches? When we went through we saw the mark where it was, no other marks and then where it was a few feet over almost like it was picked up... which it wasnt. haha

    Better to ask what I have not done.
    We used austins winch and we had to double pully it sideways. It was fun.

    A small handful of select mods.
    So you must have a uniball UCA with poly bushings at the frame? The stock UCA will limit the down travel so that the shock is not taking the brunt of it.

    Also note the OME has run that design for 20+ years in the outback of Australia with success. My guess is (I have not wheeled with you) that your wheeling style is more aggressive and therefore you need something in a 2.5 with resi's that can absorb what you throw at it.

    Stock everything else.... alignment is within spec with stock control arms. Thats why I figured something was wrong with the "bolt on" setup being configured with the shock taking the beating.

    But yes, I now know that I need something thats up for more usage.

    And I know that ARB/OME have run the setup for a long time, but the fact that there are these "common" problems from the shock being too short to the rear shock mounts needing to be re-worked for the shock to fit in make me think that the shocks were designed for something else (maybe Hilux), and were a close enough fit for Tacoma. Just the fact that the lower bushing on the rear shocks is too large for any Tacoma mounting brackets is a pretty obvious sign that they were designed for something else or they would've put the correct size bushing in there.

    Stuff and junk and things...

    Get a set of Icon, Fox, Kings. they sell them without the extended travel if you don't want to do an upper arm. But IMO I would spend the 700-800 more for the upper arm of your choice.
