i said more than likely...not all

and i agree that the situation changes completely...but many times it takes something else other than just having a gun pointed at them to resolve the situation...be it a taser or being tackled or whatever

i just dont think that your typical home invader is going to freak out at the sight of a gun

this is obviously not going anywhere

my personal experiences/training vs your experiences are obviously quite different

either way extreme caution should be used when making the decision to use a firearm

There is a lot of research that shows that most home invasion is not done with the intent of harming another person; additionally, most people breaking and entering are essentially unarmed, unless they've used to screwdriver or pry bar or whatever to gain entry. Those people, in essence, bring fists to a potential gunfight, much less knives. With these facts in mind, a simple dude, (going back to the article about the old man shooting the woodworking drunk), looking to score some money for rent, DOES NOT WANT to get shot, they just want an easy way to stay drunk and pay the rent. That person for sure isn't going to fight with an armed, scared, idiot, (me and all the others on this forum pointing guns at people), they're gonna get the hell outta there.

I enjoy the discussion! No offense meant here. Where are you from? Location obviously has a lot to do with crime statistics, criminal statistics, etc. You're a cop there?

I would imagine a cop working the beat on crenshaw blvd is alot busier than the security cop at tiger wood's mansion complex...

i live in sc...my jurisdiction (which ill decline to name) has probably the highest crime rate in SC...with only 1 city outside of my jurisdiction having a higher violent crime rate

no offense has been taken and like you said...location determines statistics in a big way

most of our home invasions are related to either drugs or domestic issues (which means its not really a home invasion statistically speaking)

just from my experience and training...i do not expect a gun to deter anyone...i hope it will...but i dont expect it to

i think my situations thru with a "worst case scenario" mindset so i can be relieved if they dont go bad

yea, I know I could have shot him up through the door but why? What IF he was at the wrong house by mistake and I shot and killed that guy for no reason. He was a clean cut guy driving a new 4dr F150. I doubt he was on drugs, probably drunk though. however I do think that he was up to no good where ever he thought he was at but I stand by my actions 100%

Hornady makes a wonderful round for that, TAP round for a 223, it wont penetrate more than one foot. Shot a putbull in the chest broad side, and it sid not go through it. It is a wonderful round for home defense, about $2-$2.50 a shot but money well spent in my book.

Agreed and that is the untimate question/decision you will have to make and untimately live with for the rest of your life. You did right for the circumstance you found yourself in.

20 out of 60??? What Town is this, because it obviously isn't in a large metropolitan situation, or with veteran police officers..

Just a few words to the wise... Do not ever draw a weapon in an attempt to 'scare' a perpetrator away. This is a very good way to get hurt, or involved in a shoot out as tiger pointed out. If you draw your weapon, it should be with the full intent to use deadly force.

I know if you were to point a weapon my direction in an attempt to get me to comply with you, one of two things would happen. I am either going to draw my weapon and shoot you dead, or I would die trying. The same goes for MANY people, so think twice next time you decide to brandish a firearm in an offensive manner. You are dealing with life and death right there, where there is no second chances.

All you need to know in Texas is that if someone breaks into your house (they have to be inside it...or drug inside it after) you are free to shoot to kill. On the other hand nobody wants to kill someone for trying to steal a tv or something stupid like that. Best case scenario have your wife call the cops and make them lay face down untill the cops get there. Never shoot unless you fear for the life of you or your family.

Thats why I dont believe in warning shots. If I draw my weapon I intend to use deadly force. No 2nd chances on that one. My life or the life of my family have been threatened and whoever tempted that just lost their final chance.
