If you have never seen the post-it note pixel art wars between the people in the buildings in New York City, check this link out. It is epic.
    http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/post-it-no...communicate-skyscrapers-giant-artwork-1560878

Using that as inspiration, I decided to try it where I work.

I work in one of the taller buildings in downtown Austin and the window behind my cube faces another tall building. So, I started with the word "HI"

After about 5 days, I got the following response:

So I responded with "pixel art war"

When I came in this morning, I got this response:

    EPIC! its on!!

Also, someone on another floor wants in too:

So I fired back with "excellent..." with pacman and the ghosts:

This is spreading like crazy at my work. So much so that HR was notified and it has become "HR approved". So now I am allowed to continue the war. It looks like I am going to have to make a trip to Office Depot to get some more post it notes. I am also going to have to up my pixel art skills.

I hope this continues. I will update this thread as more art is created :)

    UPDATE: 6-10-2016
Today is my work from home day, but my co workers sent me the new images from across the street:

haha... they are going to punk my pacman art
    [IMG]

and the other office did a space invaders scene with "prepare 4 invasion"

I have been looking online for pixel art and most of them are 30x30 pixels. However, our windows can only accommodate 20x20 pixels with 3x3 inch post it notes. I did find 2x2 inch post it notes (which will give us the 30x30), but the color choices are not as plentiful. I want to do the portals (from the game Portal) that are separated by an entire window pane. And in the center pane is one of the portal sentry guns. but I don't know if I can find the color variations using 2x2 inch post it notes.

    omg... this is awesome...

    UPDATE: 6-10-2016 (2)

So one of my co-workers decided to respond. She fired back with, "There is no wait" and made an image of a mad ghost (which is what the ghosts turn into when pacman eats the power up).

    UPDATE: 6-12-2016
So I went into work today to create some new art and I found that our opponents in this art war again responded. This was their answer to our pacman scene:

Another office joined in and it looks like they are short on alcohol :)

So I fired back with some true pixel art. I found 2x2 inch post it notes and I was able to fit 29 pixels vertically. This opens up many more options. So I chose the portals from the game Portal.

Here is how our section of windows looks now:

Doing the true pixel art images takes time. The 2 portals took about 90 minutes. I don't know how I can continue that level of art during work hours. :D Unless more co-workers join in, this may be a weekly update for me.

This is so much fun :)

    UPDATE: 6-15-2016

so, a little back story on the game Portal. During the game, you are encouraged to continue by promises of there being cake at the end. However, when you do get to the end, there is no cake. This led to the following meme: "The cake is a lie". So, a guy across in the other building made an image of a cake with the word "lies":

So, not to be outdone, I created an image of a cupcake:

with the words "we have cake"

This is now our 4 panes of windows:

what's really funny is that someone in another office had also played Portal and was familiar with the meme. So, he put up the word "lies" :)

It just keeps going back and forth :)

    UPDATE: 6-20-2016

wow! so, the ball was definitely slammed over to our side with this one. I came in this morning and found that the "scream" office created a QR code:

sooo... we took a picture with our phones and sent it to our work emails. From there, we opened the picture on our computers and scanned it with our phones. And.... well... it took us here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8veTn8YZ0_E

DUDE.... we got Rick rolled !!!

So, we have to respond to that and I have a pretty good idea of what I am going to do. I am figuring that its going to take about 1500 post it notes. I am going to have to go to office depot again. However, I cant do what I want to do during work hour because of how long its going to take. So I am going to have to wait until next Sunday.

    Wait for it ......

    UPDATE:6-25-2016

hah... well... I went in today to update our window and respond to the "QR code office" across the way. I spent another 2 and a half hours on this one and another $18 on post it notes to get enough of the colors. Someone requested that I do Q-Bert so I incorporated that character into this response.

    Here is my Q-Bert:

but, instead of the thought bubble with the swear characters, I made the thought bubble with a QR code:

and if you were to scan this (and if you actually do scan it, remember to flip the image horizontally because you are looking at it from the backside) it will take you this youtube video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAryFIuRxmQ

so here is the whole image:

and a couple of additional angles:

I think this is the best piece of post-it note pixel art that I have done so far. I am not sure what I would do to top this. It is turning out to be a lot of work, but it sure is fun :)

    UPDATE: 6-30-2016
So, this will be the last update :(

The guys across the way are moving to a different floor...

Also, everyone in all the other offices have given up. So this will be it for the pixel art war. However, I was able to get in touch with the guys in the office who did the QR code. Interestingly enough, a guy I work with used to work in that office and is still friends with one of them. So, I was able to get his contact information. We chatted over email and we gave each other virtual high fives. Thanks for the great competition, Nathan :hattip:
