2005-2015 Tacoma Tailgate Lock

These are the originals were already packaged up and ready to go. I have not reworked any except the one shown above. The shop is a little busy right now with doing the v2.0 parts and some other parts.

 

Was able to remove the Jb weld from the security bit in about 10 minutes on my test piece plus a bonus hole in thumb

 

So what do we think about the anodized samples?

Anodized instead of powdercoat? Benefits on the change?

 

They sure look sexy.

 

We are exploring a few options, not sure what is better as they both have good features.

Since we started this post a few months ago, we received some good and bad feedback, which helped shape the v2.0 mods. It is really a preference as to what you want, however anodize does not have the variety of colors that powder coat does. Both have great properties with corrosion resistance.

 

We think the black (Anodized) would be in high demand. I have a Gloss Black (Powder Coat) one on my 2013 Tacoma. The Blue and Red (Anodize) may be less in demand depending on what color truck people have. People have bought the Remove Before Flight Red (Powder Coat). It screams "You are not getting this tailgate"

Thoughts?

 

Sent some parts out for Black Anodize, lets see how they turn out.

had issues with the rubber rings. They kept slipping out. I finally got the whole piece installed and was happy, when later realized a piece of the ring was sticking out the bottom. I yanked it and it came right off. The other ring is still in. Seems fine, no rattling or wiggling. Looks great and very strong. Won't prevent someone with the right tool or plenty of time but it will deter. I'm happy

 

Was this the v1 or v2 version?

Lube really helps with the o-rings.

 

how can I tell? And yes I used lube. Regardless, it's on there

 

V2 has the slot/dimple.
