Fans always complain that corporately held season tickets ruined cheap NHL seats for the average man. However I'd say it was the entire NHL becoming a serious business, with millionaire players and billion dollar owners, the turned the situation into what we see today. Corporate tickets are just a part of that.

You can still get Flames season tickets privately here. Same with Vancouver Canucks tickets in the lower valley. Jets tickets are hard to find but they are mostly held by fans and groups of fans. Edmonton... I'm pretty sure is the same way. The only two Canadian teams with a situation where Corporate season tickets dominate over private tickets are in Montreal and Toronto. Ottawa hasn't sold out in years IIRC.

I believe the list of people waiting for Seasons Tickets for the Oilers, is several miles long.
I know some people that have them - don't really want them - but do not want to give them up.....as they'll never get the chance again.

Yup. That's what I've heard anyways. Like I said it seems to be mostly fans and groups of fans who own Oilers tickets. Sure, lots of oil companies have tickets, but so do lots of normal fans.

It's the same here. A lot of folks just sell the games they don't want or can't go to. No one is giving them up.

The local news claims 400k will be in attendance, but I think that's a bit far fetched.

Yup. I go to a couple games per year. And I usually just ask my 1 friend with Seasons Tickets. They're always dishing them off.

As the years have gone by the availability of tickets has increased significantly. First couple years it was a take what you can get scenario, now a guy can be a bit more selective. It works. I am just happy the games are sold out. It's good for the franchise and I feel good about watching the games from my chair at home where I can drink much better beer.

Why does every team think that the expansion team is going to rid them of their trash? While I can see an expansion team taking a few risks, there is no way in hell they will be taking on every bad contract. They would be better served by taking terrible players on short or minimum deals that can be dealt for bad contracts AND PICKS to quickly build the team at worst. At best they will take salvageable players and the odd gem that has to be left exposed.
