    Update:

I have put 500 miles on the new transmission and the problem is fixed. It hasn't stuck once with the new transmission. Reverse is starting to go in a little easier, but I still have to occasionally double clutch to get it in. Not a big deal. I asked the service adviser what Toyota thinks the problem was with the original transmission, and they said that Gearcruncher was right on the money. The problem was likely a Tolerance problem inside the transmission.

At least with the manual Toyota has acknowledged a problem and is wiling to fix it. If it was an auto they would say it is performing as designed.

My automatic was designed to stay in gears for as little time as possible and the manuals get stuck in gear too long. Maybe they can mate and pop out the perfect transmission :stirthepot:

Mine was butter....well, until now. I have TRD ORSB 4x4 and have 872 miles. Just now, and just today I was driving in downtown and it got stuck in 3rd gear and i couldnt get it out. Today was the first day i drive the truck more than 25 mikes in a single trip. I was in the city then jumped on the highway then popped back into the city. After i got into the city i was between 2-3 gears and then it got stuck in 3rd. I had to double clutch it and then pull and it still was sticky. I wasnt pu$$y fotting around when i was clutching or shifting and I was rev'ing it to 3.2k before shifting like I usually do. I dont know what happened but today was a crappy shifting day @ 872 miles. Why????????????????????

Per your tranny replacement did Toyo give you a case number or some sort of code for the issue?

    Thx

Sorry, the dealer took care of all of that for me, so I don't know the case #, but if you call Toyota up with your complaint, they will create a case # for you.

Dealer was not able to duplicate. They are taking the truck for the weekend to try a 2nd time to duplicate.

They were able to find nothing, but the next day driving it got stuck on the highway in 5th gear and took some jerks to get it into 6th. @1300miles now

Mine is doing the same things, seems like the synro's have stopped spinning completely when hot, would indicate a machining tolerance issue. Only after 1 hour of driving. It's pretty definitive that they stop spinning, once you force the shift, (hold the shifter as if you are shifting not super hard, they will spin up to speed and release after a second or two), while they are up to speed you can quickly shift all you want normally. As soon as you wait a few minutes for them to coast to a stop the problem happens again. Wow someone messed up big time on this transmission, sure hope the replacement doesnt develop the same problem.

Well went for a spin with the salesman and definetly not butter, little sticky in each gear definetly not what I was expecting, and then the truck died at a light with the clutch fully in well started stumbling at the next few lights and died again and the nail in the coffin was the engine light came on and we limped home, I waited almost twenty years for this not a good weekend at least it wasn't mine

I've been reading up on your thread [OP] for days now and I've been experiencing the same thing for a weeks now. I've only had the truck for two months and its at 1k miles and this problem has come up as well. As far as taking in the truck to the dealership, what was their diagnosis and how long did the whole process take?

--I watched your video, same thing happens when I downshift. How's the new tranny working out know?

You need to start a case with toyota, and clearly explain the problem happens when fully heat saturated onl after driving on the highway for an hour.... dont let the dealer drive it around the block and say ya good. Having mine replaced in a few days. I almost died when it got stuck was passing and needed to downshift. Ended up braking instead.

I just took my truck in for this same problem. If driving in a lower rpm and in a particular gear for an extended period of time, I'd have to fight the gear shift to get back to neutral. The techs called me and said they couldn't replicate the problem, but said the truck is super sluggish in 1st and 2nd. I came from an Acura TL 6-speed and thought the sluggishness was just the truck. Apparently not so. They're holding onto it for the night to see if they can diagnose it, and I'll report back.

Took mine in over the weekend and the techs couldn't duplicate the problem (seems like the common response everyone else is getting), so their supervisor offered to come out and drive the truck himself on Monday 6/13. What would you know!! Sure enough the gears stuck while he drove and gave Toyota a call right away. Turns out Toyota was aware of this problem all along, yet for some reason didn't advise all the dealerships! They were more than happy to offer a rental in the mean while, yet to come to a solution. According to the Toyota manufacturer, the problem is internal and the best solution is replacing the transmission, although they did mention the replacement transmissions are having the same problem.

So who knows?? The waiting time begins...:pccoffee:

Update: Mine seems to have rectified itself. I take bi-monthly trips about 600 miles round trip over all different types of terrain. 3 trips ago is when I experienced the 6th gear difficulty of getting my truck out of gear. Literally had to force the shifter out of 6th gear at 60mph multiple times.

Since that trip, I've taken 2, and I haven't had this issue. I've been more aware of it, and am pretty confident that the tranny has broken itself in or whatever was causing the issue has worked itself out.

The trip in question where the issue had cropped up was about 1500 on the ODO, the second was 2200, and the third was over 3500 miles on the truck.

Well, I got mine back today, and of course they just shrugged it off. They called and told me that I've been driving in 4hi this whole time, which is total bs and they couldn't replicate the problem. It never happens to me when the rpms are 1500 and up, so my highway rides are clear. I only get it when I'm trying to save some fuel on the back roads and throw it into the lowest gear possible without it struggling. Maybe they're just trying to see if the placebo effect works on me.
