Has anyone weighed their truck? I went to the dump and came out weighing 5800lbs. That is with the gf and me in the cab, RTT, full tank of gas, 10 gallons of gas on rear bumper, and a box full of recovery gear. I could see it getting closer to 6000lbs loaded up for overlanding. I should factor this in when re-gearing.

I went to the dump last week and weighed 4830 with me, gf, and most of a tank of gas. I have a AC offroad with no racks or armor, just a bedmat, high lift, 5gal jerry can (full) and a camper shell.

    350. Works good but going to the arb in anticipation of eventual air locker. Plus sick of battery clips. Plus it's cool.

    I've been considering a 9k winch, possibly a 10k.

    I've heard your trucks weight X 2.5

X2 seems to be the norm... I have a 9000lb winch and have yet to find a situation where it was inadequate. My truck is just over 5000lbs with the tent and me in it.

5360lbs with Mt Shasta, sliders, bumpers (ARB up front with 9000lb winch rolled with rope and rear bumper) with me in it. Hi lift mounted in the back, and some misc crap in the bed. I don't have a subwoofer or any of that crap besides the factory jbl stuff. Not sure on my gas level for this weighing. Give me a holler if you want to check your weights. I have a certified scale at work.

An edit to this post. I'm planning on being at the 8:30 downtown Seattle ferry to Bremerton. Are you planning on being on the Fauntleroy ferry instead? The Safeway is about 25 minutes away from the ferry terminal.

Ill be a maybe till day of pretty much. I may end up having to go to Aberdeen to pick up something Im excited for!

x2 (even 1.5) is fine. Bigger is better though. Remember the 8k rating is more than likely on the drum or the 1st layer (depends on manufacturer) so if its a short pull you wont be getting the full 8k power. But snatch blocks make up for that.

Plus you have to remember very often its not pulling a dead weight. Most winches (at least the used to) were rated by pulling a dead weight 1 foot. Its not very often youll be pulling your truck out of a dead weight situation and if you are a tow strap setup might be a smarter option anyways.

Long story short...8k is fine for most of us. Most of the times ive use my winch has been when I just need a bit more omphf to get over something or traction
