Lasik eye appt this week

so, ive been wearing glasses and contacts for years now. I dont like glasses and contacts are really starting to bother my eyes.

Anyways, my fiances aunt works for an eye company here in flagstaff, so i have an appt on thursday to see if i want to do the surgery or not.

Im excited and nervous at the same time.

 

anyone else have experience with lasik?

 

Not myself but my wife has had this done. She now has 20/15 in both eyes. She did have to do the surgery twice in both eyes only because she had severe astigmatism. They are all good now and she loves not having to wear corrective lenses anymore. You will have to not wear any contacts for a few weeks prior to the exam. The use of contacts actually can change the readings because your eyes form to the contacts. I will be getting my surgery this year after we enter our new years FSA plan. My only problem is not wearing contacts for several weeks before the exam because I practice Tae Kwon Do daily. I'm not wearing glasses when I could get kicked to the head.

ya its expensive, but my fiances aunt works over there. im hoping she can get me on some type of payment plan or something. that way i dont have to come up with $2k+

 

Do it! Like MJP2 said, it's the best thing you can do! It's worth EVERY penny! I went from 200/20 in my left eye to 12/20 after the surgery( or vise versa, I can never remember which order it goes in). I was hesitant at first, but there wasn't ANY pain for me, barely any "discomfort" and I will never hesitate to get lasik again.

My procedure was over in 5 mins or so, and I was back at home asleep an hour later.

But you should not get the lasik where the doctor cuts your eye with a scalpel, only let the lasers do the cutting and correcting. The only horror stories I have heard is when the doctor does the cutting.

My wife also had this done. Best decision of her life she says. Wait...where does that put marrying me?...Anyway, the actual surgery took no time at all, just a few minutes. The longest part is the prep work before the surgery day. She went through all kinds of vision tests one day weeks before. That morning she was unable to see the big "E" on an eyechart, on the way home from the surgery, she was reading license plates and street signs blocks away. pretty amazing, actually.

 

I want to get lasik myself, but I've heard that being diabetic does not make you a very good candidate so I might be SOL. I'm going to look into it again around March when it's time for my annual eye exam and see what the doc says.

Have any of you guys/gals that had this done have any trouble seeing at night behind the wheel? For me, with contacts on, nighttime driving in town or a city is horrid on my eyes. All the reflections give me a headache. It's worse when it rains at night too.

 

my wife needs one, she cant see shit without her glasses.... but then again thats how I made her fall for me, I threw away her glasses hehehe

 

ya contacrs bother my eyes at night with the glare and stuff, hopefully the lasik will take care of that also.
