so a wheeling trip turned into a camping trip mid-week and sure glad it did! a much needed escape! so Dylan, Kayla and I shot up to the mountains for the weekend

unfortunately kingston peak is not yet open all the way, so we did some exploring of alternate routes from rollinsville to alice...

early trail up mammoth gulch


just past the old mud pit on 353, kingston peak trail continues up but is closed still at the gate...spoke with the ranger district and they will head up there mid-july to open the gates.

so from 353 we shot south on 772.1 to Sheridan Hill which meets up with the trails around Yankee Hill.




once back on 175.3, we headed toward Alice a bit until meeting up with Cumberland Gulch (271.1) and took that down to Fall River Rd.


the original plan was to shoot up to Chinns Lake and camp up there...we were expecting snow and was looking forward to some snow bashing to be the first up there...but just below the top where it flattens out by the lakes, many drifts still lingered causing a lot of trouble. even if we got past the drifts on the climb and turn, there was at least 6' of snow to bust through to get to the lakes. so we had some fun trying to get through the first big one, but we kept sliding downhill due to the slick as shit warm snow...






so we shot back down to fall river reservoir and found a great spot by the creek for the night...




took a short walk up to the reservoir to soak in the views and let the dogs play before heading back down to camp for some much needed relaxation while Dylan shot back to town to grab his tacoma and camping gear.




in the morning, we slowly packed up after we enjoyed every minute of the cool weather by the reservoir and shot back up Cumberland Gulch to Yankee Hill. this time we took 271.1 to 271.1D and found a nice tight, rocky climb back up. no photos of the climb as it was a constant climb with not much room to stop. at the first major clearing on the climb up.


at the intersection of 175.3 again, we went directly up Yankee Hill on the fun steep, rocky climb to the summit. many lines up, and all loose, rocky and steep, but we all got up no issues...great views.




from yankee hill, the goal was to take part of Miners Gulch down to an intersecting trail which would bring us to Apex, but after taking 709.1 down (a real tight and rough descent which would be a hell of a climb out), we came across a guy who travelled the area a bunch. he mentioned the route to Apex is now longer open due to locals gating it off. with word of some trees down over the water crossing, we decided to scratch that idea and continue around on Miners Gulch (175.3C) and take 175.3C to 739.1 (the typical Yankee Hill route).

fun seeing an area that is typically ran during the winter time, but without snow!

exhaust update....

after getting the LT headers installed, i got one hell of a rasp out of my exhaust and was not liking the ricer sound...

so i swung by bud's muffler today to get that fixed....original plan was to get a resonator installed as well as a new muffler as my magnaflow is pushing 10 years old now...but the guy there convinced me to baby step it and see what difference just the resonator will do...so that's what we did



nothing fancy, but it does the trick very well...keeps a nice throaty sound to it, but i'm not rasping out when i'm WOT

looking forward to our san juan trip this weekend to see how it does on a longer drive

I've got a similar rasp with my headers and similar setup bit it goes away when the truck is warmed up.

 

not my buddy's proudest moment in welding for sure...but they've held for many years under heavy use

I've been in the market for a little table like that, any suggestions?

 

got that one off steep and cheap... ALPS Mountaineering camp table

not a bad little aluminum table...stores in a bag smaller than most camp chairs...

we also now have one built into our kitchen bag (REI Camp Pack-N-Prep)


both are very similar in table top size...the ALPS is nice for a table to eat at...the REI is good for meal prep

but keep an eye on steep and cheap, you'll see tables like that come up frequently
