Dashboard tablet holder

as the name implies, I'm looking for a solid tablet holder for my iPad Air for a 2016 4Runner. Anyone have any suggestions?

 

I just ordered one of these, haven't received it yet. I like the fact that it fits in the CD slot, and I figure I'll mostly be using it on trips, so I don't mind the minor setup "pain" (there's a thumbscrew). The magnetic mounts are awesome, but I would stay away from the one you posted, @turbodb . The CD slot mechanism does not hold as well and will bounce and shake and eventually fall out of the slot. I had that one and them moved to the Sosche mount:

Magnets are much stronger and the different mounting options are better suited for you to position it anywhere you like in the cab. I use the adhesive mount, but have heard good things of all of them. The vent clip mount might not be the best since our vent clips and weak thin plastic.

 

Thanks for the heads up. I wanted to try the CD mount so that I don't have the base stuck onto my dash all the time (I really only plan to use this on longer trips - around town, I don't need the clutter). But yeah, if I find it falling out all the time, then one of those adhesive fixed mounts seems like a good way to go - thanks for the link.

 

I use the mount for my iPad and for my phone. The mount came with two pads (one for each device). That way I can swap out depending on what is going on that day. You can get additional pads for about $5 to use the same mount for more devices, such as GPS, Ultragage, whatever. Pretty handy.

 

Interesting, I would have thought magnets around a cpu would be bad. I use my iPad for everything, so I want a permanent mount for my car, so I can take it on and off as I please without removing the otter box its in.

 

I haven't had an issue. Been running the mount in my wife's car as well and all our devices use them. The magnets are in the mount itself and all you have on your device is a small metal pad that has adhesive on one side (like a metal sticker). The instructions say you can sandwich it between the device and your case so it isn't seen, but I don't mind, it's not noticeable at all. The best part about these is that if you need to remove your phone or iPad while driving, you don't have to fumble with the "fingers" that most mounts use. Just pull it off and slap it on, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, however you choose.

Yep, makes sense. For me, 95% of the time, I won't have anything mounted, thus want something easily removable. I think it'd be cool to have a strong rare-earth magnet mounted under the dash somewhere, and have a paired magnet in the mount (on the dash side). Then you magnet on the mount, and magnet your device on to that. All easily removable too.

Magnets around CPUs are fine. It's magnets around spinning hard drives that you sort of want to stay away from - but you'd need a way stronger magnet than these, I bet, to have any sort of affect.

 

The mount itself isn't that bulky. The pad is only about 1"X1" and only sticks out about an inch as well. Most people that get in my truck probably think it's an air freshener until they see me slap my phone up there. Then they get curious.
