There's a piece of mind that comes from wheeling a pretty new truck. Especially when you've modded it to be able to handle the terrain. I'd love an old rig to be a dedicated crawler, but my thoughts are the older, the less reliable it's going to be. And if it's beat up, it's going to be easier for you to not care about beating on it. Then you end up with more damage and needing to make trail repairs and shit. Then you need to be able to trailer it.

    So either:
1 nice new do it all rig,
    Or
1 nice new truck that can tow a decent amount, a trailer, and a dedicated trail rig.

In the end, wheeling the DD is the cheaper option, and the "gotta drive it to work on Monday" mentality helps keep the "no fucks given" mentality in check.

Not to mention if you build a rig that is extremely capable but also reliable enough to DD, you don't give a second thought to doing huge trips like Moab, Potts, NH/VT, Canadia Etc. You can do anything and go anywhere you want with a rig that is offroad capable but still comfortable/reliable enough to pound some pavement on.

In the end it's not an excuse regardless. Plenty of us wheel Rausch with our DD's and have been for years. Buck up or shut up at this point dude. I hope I'm not coming off as a dick because I really just want you to experience real wheeling. Rausch makes the pines look like a joke and I can't wait to wheel Moab and make Rausch feel like a joke ha.

I just want an extra hand and a knowledgable one... Ive got to cut the LCAs off my truck and put new ones in so I want to make sure I am prepared and have all the shit I need and the knowledge base there in person rather than on the phone.

Don't need slider adapter. I bought one and never used it. Eventually gave/sold it to one of these guys.

Don't ever Jack from the center of the vehicle unless the Jack is wide enough to be stable, and the ground flat enough. That's how you pendulum your truck onto yourself or your buddy by accident.
    And use Jack stands.

I live in what they call a "Coast Guard" community due to the fact a huge chunk of the year round population is in the Coast Guard. I have also worked for the county jail now for 12 years, I think I've only seen one person come in for being awol and he was in the Navy and missing for months. On another note like Josh said, when you do wheel you truck just take it easy. My thing is when wheeling Rausch is I have a 3 1/2 hour drive home.

Yes, definitely put Jack stands. Im not telling him to do this all the time, he's worried that without a hi lift he can't change a tire bc he has 2.5" lift. Im saying there is low points that are strong enough to put a bottle Jack on in an emergency until he gets sliders and hi lift

I see what you're saying, which is why I'm slightly building mine now for camping, light wheeling, and exploring so I can still take road trips. I think the older Toyotas are plenty reliable especially if you take good care of them. But buying a 30k truck to crawl is not up my alley. I'd rather buy a $5,000 truck and put 25k into it

Either get a bigger bottle jack or a hi-lift wheel adapter thing and use jack stands like you're supposed to do anyway.
