I've been shopping a new V6 manual trans A/C Tacoma (7559) for about 2 months and what I am noticing is that the dealership's websites are advertising inventory that they don't have. There are VIN numbers, options and prices but just a manufacturer’s stock photo (which is usually the wrong model and color). When I ask for actual photos of the truck with the window sticker, they breakdown and admit it is already sold. However they continue to advertise them on their websites. I understand this is a ploy to get you into the showroom, but is this kind of tactic still legal in 2016?

So i got an SR5 with the TSS package... I should have just got a regular SR5. Sticker was 33,000 and change we ended up at 30,000 OTD.

In my case the $500 will go towards the price so the price I posted does not reflect the $500 I already paid. I negotiated with 4 dealers for 2 weeks for my price. I threw in the $750 (for financing) right before i signed with the $500 deposit. That is a refund direct from toyota and not the dealer. I know the games a dealer will play if you mention that in the beginning.

On a side note the dealers loved to tell me how quickly the tacoma sells but i watched inventory for quite some time in the philadelphia region. There was not much movement here and used that in the negotiation process.

I have had weather tech in my RAV4's previously. That will be the first upgrade when I take ownership. I dont care for factory carpet or all weather mats. I liked the sport best also. I started with a limited and could not look past all the chrome. I personally dont care for the chrome handles, rims, and mirrors on the limited trim. That is what swayed me. I also really liked the hood scoop and aggressive look of the sport.

Right. I wanted the limited first too but then I saw the sport and decided on it because like you said it looks freaking awesome and aggressive!

Well I don't know about up there, but here in Fayetteville, my sport came in on a Tuesday and when my parents got it that Thursday the salesman told them that 3-4 people already made an offer and tried to buy it.

FYI the dealer who quoted me $565 per month on the SR5 with SR5 appearance package emailed me yesterday (2 days later) and offered $403 per month..........but that they could only do 12,000 miles and not 15,000 at that price.....HAHAHAHAHHA. What a scam. And it seems like I can get it even lower based on the comments from you guys (MSRP on the truck is around $34,400).

$34,178 is the MSRP (it has the upgraded wheels and tonneau cover plus other add-ons which I don't even need). Their "internet price" is $32,285 and the MF they are using is .0021 (which is higher than anyone I have spoken with) and a 68% RV. Even with 15,000 miles their per month price was astronomically high.

I know that this is kind of going off in a different direction but why are you leasing?

Personal preference and I am a graduate student so I have a budget that doesn't allow me to purchase. The high residual value that the Tacoma has helps keep the lease payment lower too. I know its not for everyone but this would be my second lease and it works for me. Buying would be ideal but the payment is out of reach.

$34k for an SR5 is a rip. Heck you can get a low base TRD model for that

$34k is the MSRP which I would not pay. Its the DCSB 4x4 V6 AT with the SR5 appearance package. The MSRP on the TRD Sport is about $35,500 from what I've seen, without any upgrades. I'm trying to see if I can get around invoice and go with the best deal.

I ordered a TRD Sport Extended Cab 4x2, 6.1' bed, Silver Sky, Cement Gray interior, Premium Package w/o JBL, Tow Package, Mud Guards, Carpet Floor Mats and Step Tubes. MSRP 34,149. Price was 32,895. OTD was 35,206. Most likely it will be a 2017.
The first dealer in Austin, TX offered it at 34,085; OTD 36,627. Strictly retail and for a "repeat customer" as they phrased it. Compared to the Austin deal, I thought I got an equitable deal.

I think that you could have done better but if you're happy that's all that matters.

I believe you're right, but I was looking at the first offer, which I thought was insulting. My wife bought her Camry there in Feb. On my last Tacoma, I did better, they came down around 6-7% off MSRP. I put the paper work away.
