GraveYard Shift BS

Got home at 7:30 and went to bed at 8:30 and got up at 1:30 wide eyed and ready to go... have to go in tonight at 6:30. Going to be a long night, this happens about every 2 weeks or so. No idea why, didnt do anything different last night or this morning.

 

It's your body trying to get back on days It happens to me if I wake up and get some sunshine. I can't get back to sleep after that Makes for a long night

 

I hear you. I seems I'm always just a little bit tired, no matter how much sleep I get.

 

not over seas but transfered to the grave yard shift last october. 6 to 6

 

Graveyard shift here as well for the past 6 years. I work 12hr nights. 3 days on 3 days off and 4 days on 4 days off every other week...

 

Back on tonight for 6-12's in a row.

 

I work the exact same schedule. We also rotate every 3 months. 3 months Weekday day shift (Monday through Wednesday and the 4 day throws in Sunday) then the same at night then Weekends Thursday through Saturday and a Sunday every other week. I like it but there is no getting anything done on workdays!

 

I hear you. I sleep great most of the time and feel rested as soon as I get up and then 20 minutes later I feel like I could go back to sleep for 2 days.

 

Nice. I wish we rotated like that so we can enjoy different days off.

 

Just got off so I can sleep a few hours then head back to work for a team building event. Going to one of those escape rooms then dinner at a Brazilian churasceria.

 

Oh man how I love Brazilian steakhouses... damn good food. That's another perk of night shift, all the stupid training and stuff is always during the day. I have alot of training throughout the year and it seems like it's always at the butt crack of dawn on my days off so I have to switch back to days for my weekend and then struggle the first day back.

 

I do enjoy it. You can also "poll" to stay or go to another shift if someone wants to swap. Some people find a particular shift that works best for them and typically try to stay with it as much as they can. I like this shift the most (weekday nights) because I have my weekends off and I avoid working in the sun through most of summer.

 

Oh man, rough night. After being on vacation the last 2 weeks, I get a call at about 2PM while I'm still babysitting asking if I wouldn't mind coming in last night otherwise I'll get switched to day shift because the standby guy has to work days and can't if he worked last night. Ok, wife gives me the go ahead, haven't had any sleep all day to prep...wow I am haggard lol! This is one of those nights where when the guy usually shows up at a certain time and doesn't, I get all pissy lol

 

Yeah man I haven't been to one in aboutb15 years but I remember they were good lol. And same here for the training. Today is my first day off so I'll be back at work in a few hours lol great.

 

I got recalled one night at about 8pm. Had been up all day working in the yard, grilled out and was at my mother in laws house. It was bad night, a really bad night. I don't know how my heart didnt explode from caffeine overload.

 

Downside is I just started my low carb diet on Monday so Im basically regulated to meat cheese and water with the occasional hard boiled egg lol. Caffiene and sugar is a no go. Was doing good until about 11 or so then started crashing hard. Was able to carch a couple little power naps until i could get home and then I died for about 6 hours straight lol

 

I hear you about the training during the days. Next week I have training 7am-11am. I'm usually fast asleep by then. When I was on vacation I switched to days the first day off, no problem. A week later going back to third is a little rough. It took a good week to get back into it.

 

No coffee????? There's no calories in it and if anything it helps your metabolism. I know some real diet Nazi's who still drink coffee like crazy. Just make sure to stay hydrated.

 

Yeah true, pure black coffee is good, and like I tell out new guys to mess with them, "I like my coffee like I like my men, hot, black, and strong, or white, weak, and sweet"
