I don't even know who to take legal action against at this point. Firestone, these crooked mechanics, or both. When I called the toyota dealership they said the same as you guys. Its unlikely it would last three years. The rabbit hole keeps going

If it was installed on the wrong side the wouldn't the no wear side be super flat after three years of use... I am no pro but looks correctly installed to me.

So could anything have been installed backwards on that whole piece?

Looks correct to me. If anything, I would actually say that this failure may be due to the usage of a cheap brand clutch, user error while driving, or a combination of both. Do you know what brand clutch was used?

The stuff usually only goes in one way. And it all has a specific way of bolting up, otherwise you won't be able to put it all back together.

Looks like centre is offset to one side which leads me to believe thats its only possible to put on one way.

My Question is are you even sure you got your clutch parts back ??

Did you need to replace the flywheel ??

I would loved to see pictures of that.

Don`t forget the disc has two sides one wears on the fly wheel the other on the clutch plate

with the rivets exposed on the disc either the clutch plate or fly wheel would be destroyed not to mention the noise it would make.

I just looked at a new clutch

^^^ flywheel was probably gouged out bad and wasn't even replaced. And how did you let it get that bad???

I called and they said they did resurface the flywheel. What exactly does that entail?

All the clutch plate I've worked with have friction material on both sides and those clutch plates fit between the flywheel and the pressure plate.

I can't see how having friction material on one side and rivets sticking out the other would work. Will somebody please enlighten me?

They simply remove the material which has caused the flywheel to become uneven basically making the surface smooth again. It's the same process as turning rotors. They are warped and they get put on a machine or get cut on the car to make the surface nice and flat and smooth again for the pads to ride on. Same concept.

If there were hotspots present, some still shave the flywheel, in that instance it's always better to replace it as the hotspots will resurface quicker since there is overall less overall metal on the flywheel to dissipate the heat.

I have a question for you guys: Firestone are the ones who originally replaced my master and slave cylinder and they are saying they have no involvement on this clutch going out. To me my truck was running fine before I took it to them and after I took it to them is when all the problems arose and when my clutch burned out. So do you think they had some part into the clutch going out?

If they did you clutch master and slave cylinder the only issue which would occur would be no engagement from the slave cylinder or excessive air in the system. You can't really cause catastrophic clutch and or flywheel damage simply by replacing the cylinders.

Judging by your pictures , your flywheel is going to be garbage at this point in time . If the pics are from 3 years ago , I sure hope they cut the flywheel down for the new clutch . You will " NOT " get warranty unless the flywheel is turned down and its very easy to tell if the flywheel was not machined . The flywheel wears like a bowl and easy to check with a straight edge
3 years ago when you had the new clutch installed , who purchased the clutch , you or the shop that did the work ?
Did the garage purchase the clutch for you ? If they did , check the warranty in your paper work . You may have a 3 year warranty .
The pictures of your clutch show a bad bake , poor riveting and side loading .
Either way , you are on the hook for a new clutch
How many miles did you put on that clutch ?

When I spoke to the dealership though they said that it isn't possible for the flywheel to last 3 years in backwards. They said it shoulnd't have last 2 minutes. What do you think?

I have been informed that a Toyota clutch will function installed backwards .
I wouldn't recommend trying it , but nevertheless some members here say it works fine
This is something I have never made the attempt to do . With that said , I have no experience for a backwards installation .
From an operational standpoint , as long as the friction disc releases and applies properly , it doesnt matter which way its installed as long as it will function correctly .
I would like to see some pics of your flywheel . If the disc was installed backwards , your flywheel will be torn to shreds
The guys at the dealership say it wont last because in most cases a clutch installed backwards will not even bolt up .
In the case of Tacoma,s , apparently they will bolt up and function fine

This thread is confusing as hell. Are those clutch pics above 3 years old? Or are they recently taken pics of a clutch that has been in and used for the past 3 years?
The clutch in the picture was not installed backwards. Edit It very well could have been installed backwards. That clutch is hammered. One might ask what one was doing to said clutch? Looks like some someone was wheeling in deep mud and water and got that clutch nice and hot and took it in for a dip. Multiple times!
The op should be sending those pics to the clutch manufacture and asking them these questions. Some clutches can survive being red hot most can not.
What does the inside of the bell housing look like? Are there any local do it yourself shops in your area? Throw that rig up on a lift and fix it yourself.
