My wife and I went out to dinner. We were gone an hour and when we got back my truck window was smashed in. No other damage to the vehicle (it couldn't have been a hit and run) and nothing stolen (the doors were unlocked anyway). I called the police and they did a writeup. They contributed it to the cold weather. (they couldn't find a projectile) It was not unreasonably cold so I don't think that was it.
I was more worried because 3 hours before this I called my insurance and changed my collision coverage deductable from 500 to 250. I didn't want to be the subject of and insurance fraud investagation. The officer said it would be covered under comprehensive covervage (which I did not change). I think since he said about the cold temp breaking it that it would definately be under comprehensive. I have yet to call the insurance company as I wanted to see all my options.
    1. My front window is cracked also. I filed a claim a year ago and the garage never scheduled me in to have it replaced. I didn't have the money after a few months. I've kinda wanted it done though.
    2. I don't really have the money to spend 100 to get my window fixed. If I have to then I will but that means someone else isn't getting their money.
    3. I don't mind doing something myself If I can save my deductible.

I don't know if any of you insurance guys can help out with advice. Or anyone who has changed a power window before. Is there any way I can gain something from this.

I actually like the idea of having a drivers side manual roll up window if that's possible? Any thoughts. I have progressive insurance if that makes a difference. Pics in a few minutes

That sucks sorry to hear it man. Somebody broke into my Dad's truck a few nights ago. They used his trailer hitch ball mount to smash his window.

whether it was weather or a projectile it would still be comp. comp is for when your vehicle is not moving. once it is moving it is considered collision even if it rolls down the drive way with no one in it.

if your deductible is more than the cost of fixing the window then dont bother with the claim. as for the windshield, you made a claim so its on file, get it done when you need but check with your ins co for any timeline restrictions they may have.

Probably some Taco hater out there did it!

    Did a google.
Collision insurance insures your vehicle when you are in a collision or accident. Comprehensive insurance covers you for other things and is also known as ‘other than collision insurance’, such as vandalism, disasters, acts of God, theft, fire and impacts with an animal.

hitting animals is considered an "act of God" and is covered under comp

Weather...like a tree falls on your vehicle etc... you have to check to see what your ins co considers a act of God but im sure they are pretty standard throughout.
