That looks like a lot of preload on the coils. How much did you crank them up once you got them?

They were cranked up exactly 1" of thread.
I'm at 24" hub to fender. The ride is excellent and better than I expected. Looking at the spring there is plenty of space between the coils to compress under load.

If I'm not mistaken I thought every 1/4" of thread is 1/2" of lift that's why you're at 24" hub to fender when most try to stay at 23 which would have been 3" of lift on a 2nd Gen. How do your CV angles look with that much lift? @Gramps can explain it all better.

I'll take a look and post pics of cv angles as soon as I can. What should I be looking for?
I thought stock fender to hub was 21"

Interesting, really haven't heard much on these for our trucks. I will look into them.

Thats correct but our trucks came sitting up an 1" higher than a 2nd gen, so a 3" lift for them is 2" for us. You'll run into problems with your CVs with that much strain on them, you should see if the fins in the boot are touching because if they are they can tear. You should also look at the angle of the UCA to the spindle and see if its closed to being maxed out without being flexed. If you go look at the thread Toytec started it explains a lot of this.

I did check my cv boots immediately after the install and they were close but we're clear from touching. UCA looks real good...no issues there. There has been some droop since install so I'm looking good to go. I'll be taking it to Toyota to have them take a look to make sure everything is good in about 500 miles.

A small handful of select mods.
Do you know if those coils are 650lbs? That would explain why you had to crank them so much. The front end of the 3rd gen is heavier then the 2nd gen. Down the line you might look into a 700lb coil. It will help keep the front end up and the preload down. I am going to do the same for my ICON'S soon since I have a bumper and winch.

Stock spring rate on a 3rd gen is 712lbs.

the coils on the fox are 600#. thats a ton of preload you have on there. its usually only recommended to have 2 inches of preload maximum.

OP, did they tell you if anything actually changed in the coilover itself from 06-15 to the 16?

Nope, I wasn't told about any changes. Per Foxs' website it's same part # for 2005-2016 so I don't think anything has changed. Preload looks real good on the spring. Under load the spring looks exactly like it did with the coilovers off the truck. Not worried.

I'd be worried, I'm only going to run my kings with 1 inch of lift,
3 over stock is insane. 4 inches on a second gen without db is all bad and that's what your components are feeling

truck looks great man! thank you for the pic! i have a 16 sport and am torn between rims.
i like those methods but i found some other all black rims at american tire that look good too.

how is the ride on those tires? i
m going with the stage 2 icon lift.
Im just not sure if i should do mud terrains or all terrians since i will only be using it for off roading about 20% of the time

So I ended up with some droop in the front. When I first got the lift installed I was at exactly 24" hub to fender. After a week or so I'm at 23 1/4" equally on both front sides. CV's look real good. There is some real minimal rake but I'll most likely leave it as is. Just some info. Ride is still perfect.

^ mine dropped about the same the first few weeks. I just cranked the coilover collars 1 more turn then locked it in. Still have a slight rake... but I like that in case I haul/tow something heavy. plus the leafs will settle some more.

Do you remember which way you cranked them for more lift? Left or right? I may give it a few cranks just for the heck of it.

    Clockwise for more pre-load/lift.
Jack up the front to take the load of the suspension before cranking them.
If you're not off roading and just doing it for looks you may be ok just check your cv angles for binding and boot rubbing @ ride height and full droop.
