At least you are honest with yourself.

Hang a couple unit heaters in there that you can turn on when needed and you'll be fine.

I like how you had the garage doors ran. Even when you open the little door on the side it goes all the way up to the bottom of the roof trusses. Are you putting electric door openers in?

Thanks. Yeah I'm pricing out the owens corning 2" thick insulation around the skirt boards as well as between the stones and the slab. Idea would be something like this for the sides.

Not planning on it, but plans are always subject to change :) The high lift track was a nice option so I didn't waste any of the ceiling space.

Great. Looks good, I am also building a shop/garage and a house at the moment. I'll be following this one (my shop is not nearly as big as this one though).

I am going to do a build thread on mine as well. I have posted a bunch of stuff in the SC BS THREAD already, but I plan on a home/shop build thread here soon.

The shop is built and I have a question for @koditten about his garage door where the lift is. I plan on putting a lift in mine in the future and I need to do something like he has where the door rides up the ceiling. Saw it in his picture and thought that was what I need to do.

Yep, my door hugs the ceiling. I had my track kit special ordered from Lowe's. I works great. I can lift cars with the door open or closed.

If you do get door openers for the big doors look for the one's that you can open part of the way. My neighbor has this on his large doors. Push one button the door opens high enough to let a regular car/tuck in but you do not loose all your heat. Push the other button and the door opens all the way.

Jesus, thats a hell of a garage, and i didnt realize your place had that much land attached. also, what company did you have come out and do the initial build? were looking at having a small 24'x24' put up at my house, cant decide if its better to have somone do the frame/exterior and we do the finish work, or if well just do it all with a Versatube style building kit

That's a good idea, thanks I will look into it. I may add an opener for the front doors in the future but for right now I'll stick with the old manual
I'm trying to motivate others to do one as well :D

Shirk pole buildings did the pole structure itself. I can tell you that it would have taken me and a few buddies much longer and probably a lot more wasted material compared to what these guys did it for.

Ok well the better half of my conscious has voted to do radiant heating, I was swayed both ways but for a little more in material I think it'll pay off in the long run. I got some progress done today, not too much but I was just working by myself.

Grabbed some 2" 4x8 sheets of XPS from lowes
    5034FA04-3576-47DA-982A-E40F012211B3_zps_91d89ea8798d8a2e7a528671868f56ab09164ab2.jpg

Set up a little jig with a 2x4 and some nails and split the 4' section in 1/3s for a 16" height.
    E44A1767-5C49-41A6-AD1F-2BB9F9AF4BC4_zps_dcef03440c7459072af2b3eb5298c22f7919bf46.jpg

Dug out around the skirt board and mounted the XPS where the finished floor will go to
    CB888C24-DD1A-4BD8-BC4E-AF839191AB7B_zps_79932f9283a06ba0a4ce0541f1d8a7f4a5251f69.jpg

Next up I have to put some 3/4" XPS where the poles are, that should go alot quicker since the soil is softer where they dug for the poles and it's a lot less area to do. After I knock that out I'll spread the stone, more XPS, a layer of vapor barrier, then prep to mount the pex with some wire mesh and chairs

Thanks I subbed to it and def keep an eye on the progress :)

Today after work I finished putting up some 3/4" XPS on the poles, next up will be setting the stone, hopefully I'll get to that on Saturday. Just placed an order for all the PEX parts

I'll also likely mount another 2x6 below the existing skirt board to cover up the insulation and then add some dirt up to the trim so that water will drain away from the building.

    @PSU Taco85 , Thanks.

BTW I grew up in Jersey. I see the plates on the t4r and I thought I remember seeing Jersey plates on your truck at one point, in some post somewhere.

    What part?

I grew up in Long Valley and moved to Blairstown (north west, right in the Delaware water Gap off of Rt.80 W) in 95'. I ended up going to Blair Academy in high school. I moved to SC in 2003.

Hopefully be pouring footers and walls for the house within the next week!

My pex is attached to the foam. They have these clips that screw into the foam and the pex is clamped to the clips. Very fast and easy.

If using 1/2" pex, no more than 12" inches apart and 300' long loops. Perimeter loops should be 6-7" apart since lots of heat is lost on edges even though you have foam.

Resist cheating out and using a water heater for heat supply. Find a boiler, they are designed to make lots of hot water constantly. I had a friend in the heating biz source me a boiler that was removed from a home. The new owners wanted central air. Boiled don't have air. They had central, forced air installed and ripped out the boiler. I got it for $200. Win.

Also, have flow indicators installed on your primary and secondary zones. Fuck balancing with a heat gun. Seeing the flowes of water makes it much easier.

Keep the pics and progress coming.

Yep I am all the way down in the South about 30 minutes west of philadelphia. I've been kayaking up towards that way but to be honest that neck of the woods is pretty unfamiliar to me as I rarely make it up there . Most of my family is from down here and in northern VA. I look forward to seeing some more pics in your build(s) :)

I thought about attaching it to the foam, but I've read with a slab thicker than 4" that you end up losing efficiency so I want to have them suspending about 2" below the concrete surface. That and some wire mesh will also help reinforce the concrete a bit. I plan to do 1/2" pex, 250' loops since I am getting 500' rolls. Only area that won't get the pex is where the lift will mount. I plan to get a high efficiency boiler, fortunately my dad is a licensed plumber so he will help me with setting up the zones and getting me a good deal on the equipment :D
