Okay, you lost me on that one lol. By the way, my older brother is a retired Dallas firefighter. That's what I wanted to do when I got out of high school about a hundred years ago. Went so far as applying, being accepted, passing the physical and was waiting for rookie school to start when the Lord kind of led me in another direction. I've got great respect and appreciation for you guys. Thanks for what you do.

It's a Texas tech thing against A&M :D retired from DFD? Damn not most make it before they leave DFD, but if you do and are on the old pension plan you were set up for a real nice retirement :D

Yes the bolt holes are still there, so a Ram or Cravenspeed A-pillar rod will fit. Not sure if it will interfere with airbag operation though.

I have one of these. I like the fact that it is low profile when not being used and it kind of matches my color scheme. It is mounted on top the dash and does not interfere with my view with the phone mounted.

The only issue which is not a problem for me is it is landscape only, but it works with my Nexus 6P which is a large phone.

I tried a couple different solutions and wasn't pleased with either. I didn't want it blocking my vents and wanted to be able to reorient the screen so passenger can assist with navigation. I decided to stick with function over aesthetics and went with a ram mount. I removed the bezel, then separated the trim ring from the bezel. I checked for interferences then drilled holes and installed bolts for the base plate then shimmed the gap at the rear. I'm pleased with the functionality of the setup and its rock solid with no movement. image.jpg

I use mine for off road navigation. I can download maps to be used when I have no service. I've probably got 20+hrs in route planning(off road, not to and from) for an upcoming trip that I'll be using it for.

Looks great! The side curtain airbags always give me concern when mounting in that area.

I finally ended up with a Scosche Magic Mount Pro. The slimmer base makes it fit perfectly where I installed. Magnets are rock solid. Love this thing.

I've used Backcountry Navigator, and it worked fine. For the last couple years, I've been using Gaia GPS app on both Android, and Apple.
For me Gaia has been more consistently good when both downloading maps for offline use, and while being used with no service. I just sit down,
pic an area of interest, and start zooming in, using multiple different map layers(topographic, satellite,USGS,USFs etc..)until I find trails, roads, or
    terrain features I'm looking for.

Oh nice, I've been wanting something like that for a while. Just to map out the trails. I'll give it a whirl.

Isn't the little rectangular hole in between the cupholders and shifter made for phone-holding? I can't see any other reasonable use for it!

I mated a ram mount to a gopro buckle. That thing is already on the windshield, might as well use it. Also makes it easy to take down if you need to.

Same here. But my phone wouldn't get as vertical as I wanted with the laid back angle of the radio surround, so I picked a different spot. Does your phone get fully vertical? Or is it slightly pointed at the roof? I would rather mine be more in my line of sight, but this works well enough!

From where I sit in the drivers seat, mine appears to me to be completely vertical. This is one of the reasons I went with the pro mount, it seemed to have a slightly more right angle than the previous version. I'll try get a photo using an actual camera so that I can leave the phone on the mount and take a photo.
