I drove from Vancouver CA. to Everett Wa. Today and back and got 11.8l/100km or 19.93 mpg this was done mostly in econo mode and only used ECT PWR mode for passing and up larger hills.oh yes and I was running 87 grade gas.

mixture of city and hwy driving. V6 4x4 auto tranny. I get 20 mpg average. This picture was my best so far on 55 mph country roads.

    IMG_0324.jpg
Note: I got this truck new in December during the cold part of the year. I was frustrated because I was only getting 16 mpg...as the weather warmed up and I put more miles on my truck, things got a lot better :)

I think a tonneau will make a huge improvement in mpg.. Now interesting in knowing if people get crap mileage with a tonneau.. I started off getting 17-18mpg brand new and now get 23-25 15 mile backroads trips almost 7k miles. I got 22 with ect gunning it frequently around
    3-4k rpm shifts

Drove from Modesto ca to Oakland airport and back. Hit some traffic but not much. Had some Hills. Average 22.2 miles. When driving there I used ECT coming back only for a few. Used air conditioning full time on the way back. It's about 76 miles one way. Going up the hills I had to gas it more but truck handled it well. So not to bad.

Nothing fancy, yet. Weathertech mats front/back + their mud guards, some reflective striping and custom carpets on the storage bin lids underneath the jump seats.
Completely stock 16' 4X2 SR5 access cab. Texaco 89 octane gas.
I drove from Columbus, GA to Atlanta and back today with the AC on the whole time and averaging 70-71mph on the interstate there and part way back with some secondary roads on the return trip.

A few weeks ago I picked up the 2016 4x4 TRD OffRoad at Tacoma West in Columbus, OH.
    Automatic transmission......driving on average 70 mph.....sometimes 85 with heavy foot....got about 20-21 mph.
Got home to Texas, put on 17" TRD wheels from FN Wheels.....Nitto 265/70/r17 115T , Gatortrax retractable cover, made a couple of 3 hr highway trips, 70-85 mph, getting 17mpg.

3 tanks in, with a stock SR AC MT 2.7, no cap/tonneau, not carrying much, averaging 24.2 mpg. Probably 80% highway. Admittedly, I have a pretty light foot, and let it take its dear sweet time getting up to speed.

I don't know if I agree. I'm starting to notice a bit of an improvement almost immediately after hitting 1000 miles. Nothing definitive yet, but I noticed last night that my instantaneous MPGs were well over 15MPG (the halfway point) consistently while driving in the city, whereas the previous few days I found it damn near impossible to get instantaneous MPGs to show over 15MPG. We'll see in the coming days, but it seems like there has been a slight improvement for me. Time well tell...

I was a 2nd gen hater and truly feel bad for a lot of you guys, but I'm getting 20-21 mpg with AC on the whole time on my first tank, wonder why there's such a fluxuation amongst everyone's mpgs.

I guess, just odd seeing that even guys with bigger tires are getting better than some reported 15mpg. In the old powertrain a 3'' lift with E/D rated 285 tires only netted a 1-2mpg loss.

Something seems to have happened to my truck shortly after hitting 1000 miles that improved my fuel efficiency significantly. Or course, I didn't do fuel calcs, I'm just basing this on the computer, but from what I read they seem to be fairly accurate. I went from getting 15-16mpg around town, to all of a sudden getting 20-21mpg around town (add ~3 for highway). We'll see if I continue to get this fuel efficiency, but I'd be surprised if I didn't.

I wonder if something in the truck's "learning" process isn't happening on some of these trucks?

My brother in law knows a guy where he works thats married to the sister of the wife of a Toyota engineer. He says they send out ECM updates to the new Tacomas via satellite transmission at 1,000 miles.

This was driving home from the office today. On I-5 northbound about five miles north of downtown Everett, Washington on a level stretch of the freeway. I reset the 'average fuel economy' every morning. This is at about 1/4 of the tank of fuel being used, and I had driven about 40 miles so far today at the time the picture was taken.

Set a new personal record. Actual distance on GPS was 118 miles which would make it 25.4MPG. Usually only average 21-22MPG on my trips to the coast but decided to take the back way which cuts out about 25 miles of going 70MPH+ on I-40.

Been getting 400+ miles per tank. Happy with the gas mileage. Took me less than a gallon to get home from work. Avg 21 on this tank.
