He drove it and tested it warm last night, then again cold this AM. Not sure why they wrote that on the report. This was the same tech that did a great job on my frame swap and installed my new suspension. I think he just wanted to double check his work either way. Seems great now. No issues to and from work today. Nice and smooth and cleaned up.

Good news. The tech drove it a few times and says it should be just fine. No damage done, other than to my wallet.

I feel for you. This is why I walk all around my truck and look under it every time I leave home and most of the time when it's parked somewhere. Yesterday I saw a little puddle under the rear axle as I returned to my truck. A closer look showed it was water from someone's a/c.

If it was vandalism or damage from road debris comprehensive insurance might cover it.

I was a bit annoyed at my better half for not noticing the puddle in the driveway before she took off and ran it out, but it was early in the morning and she didn't do it on purpose....and she cooks for me....and it's fixed now.

Most people just crank and fly so I wouldn't hold it against her.

Sounds like the outcome would have been the same if she'd discovered it at home anyway.

I don't know a lot about automatic transmissions but I believe in a case like this the loss of fluid would cause the transmission to stop functioning before anything was seriously damaged as it requires hydraulic pressure to operate the transmission. Transmission get damaged by overheating, towing, mountain or fast driving.

I think I read you got a new frame? I think you are way ahead of the game on who owes who. Toyota dumped a shit load of money into your truck to keep you as a customer. Are you still Toyota loyal?

Probably time to move on. I don't think you need to worry about who owes who.

Thanks for the opening post. I appreciate the entertainment and love to hear how others view situations like this.

The trans fluid has to be checked when cold to get a proper (accurate) reading on it

I'm a 2x Tacoma owner. I don't drive anything else. I got my fiance to dump her Chevy Equinox TURD for a nice used 2011 Camry. She loves it and so do I. Got my mom out of a Jetta and into a RAV4. She loves it. We're Toyota around here. This was just a freak weird problem, not a reflection on the Tacoma reliability.

...^^^... Most of the time (not 100%, except 100% at Dealerships ) I do a "Walk Around" to check for any damages or problems .. even did a "walk around" in the rain today at the VA parking lot.

Then why have I been following this:
"The fluid temperature MUST BE between 46°C (115°F) and 56°C (130°F) to accurately check the fluid level."

    Is this not the V6?

Sorry, I wasn't accurate...the trans has to cool down to a specific temp to be read accurately, it can't be read after the trucks been running at operating temp. That's what I've been told anyhow, if the OP had that in his paperwork I assume that's the reason
