I have the same set, the nice part with the weld on is you can get adjust the angles to you liking. Also who ever welds them for you mock them up and tack them tonight her and weld them a off the truck. It's also easier to to paint them before welding them to the truck.

What is wrong with a 110v welder? What your sliders made out of? 1/2" plate?

Fuck yeah. Dont need too may amps to weld 120 wall tubing. My 110v mig can weld 3/8" material. You got a MIG or stick?

I'm more worried about welding the sliders to the frame, small Mig welder that my buddy just recently told me he had if I'm not mistaken

As long as you have a decent ability to weld, it will be fine. My older brother is a welder by trade, and he has used my MIG to weld 3/8" plate in one pass. With .025 wire no less.

Here are some picks from a while back when I weld my sliders up.

For the right amount of penetration and a bigger weld footprint the 220 is better... Yes itll work but not so sure how structurally sound itd be compared to the 220... Overkill is better than coming up short...

Not to be a dick, but how long you been welding? Too much heat and penetration will weaken the material. 220 welders are not needed for anything on our trucks. There is a direct correlation between material thickness being welded and welding amperage. Then again, I am just a dumb carpenter.

This is where I have to shut up before the bitch fit ensues of me researching online and everyone else having their panties go so far up their vagina it comes out their mouth.

Ive had an interest in welding since freshman year of highschool... I did alot of research did a summer at a vocational school for it but the school was full of drug addicts so I went back to regular highschool and have gotten more and more into it... 110v that I have had expierience using (mig and a stick welder) both don't put enough heat down to weld much more than my exhaust pipe... Which I did weld myself... The 110 we used to build that firepit I posted struggled with 14 guage steel...

The 220 Ant has is great... I had no issues running a bead on the .120 wall tubing and didn't really put out enough heat to melt a hole in the tubing or anything...

I did not say 220 machines could not do thin material. Just sad the capability of the machines was not fully needed for most things we would need on our trucks. MOre expensive machines are usually more adjustable, and are higher quality. And much more fun to play with. If you are up in Somerville area, you are more than welcome to swing by my place and play with my welder. You might be surprised at what a 100 machine can do.
