Seriously, MPG figures should be compared with full tanks of fuel and not just a couple gallons going downhill. But, no harm in sharing what you get on a quarter of a tank at a time. You just get people's hopes up with the title saying 30 mpg (and you have a V-6)! ;)

Do you need to know, or care?
If you were living in my town, with my canuck bucks, and comparing cost of gas to MPG, you'd be getting 12.6 MPG on that trip.

At 24 MPG, you'd be getting 10 MPG for the same price of your gas in Riverside, so those Prius' can just go screw themselves.

This is the most useful info in this thread. If only people would start backing up their claims with multiple fuelly posts.

Good job James_Bond. Driven that many times so I completely understand. Unfortunately these other dipshits dont! The jest is that if you drive it like a granny(which EPA and Toyota want you to do) then you will get the estimated gas mileage as advertised by the corporation.

Without the heater on, and driving until the low fuel light comes on (using at least 17 gallons out of the 21 gallon tank), my range is from 14-20 MPG, with anytime above 18 being RARE and trying hard to not drive with the flow of traffic. Most of my daily driving is on surface streets or a combo of highway and streets... and I am only getting 15 MPG in those conditions. I did just change my air filter, and it was dirty. Also, my slightly taller than stock tires do slow the odometer a tiny bit so I may be getting an actual 15.5 MPG. I did stop buying ARCO and COSTCO gas, but the cost of using Shell or Chevron did not outweigh the small improvement I thought I was getting in mileage. I am back to using Costco exclusively. It is now 30 cents a gallon cheaper than ARCO and 50 cents cheaper than Shell or Chevron. $2.48 the other day.

You can't really compare driving downhill w average mileage. W that said my stock TRD Offroad DC gets better gas mileage than the old Subaru it replaced.

I finally got a tank average above 20 mpgs (20.1 to be precise), but it was a lot of highway driving at about 60-65mph. I've been getting a consistent 18.5-19 mpg tank average for most of my tanks.

The only way to get better mileage is to drive like a grandpa. Thats not me, and I dont really see the point. I'll maybe fill up 1 extra tank a year versus someone getting a few mpg's more than me...so $35?

I'm definitely on the lower end of this data curve. I have been averaging probably about 16 mpg between a lot of city driving, w/ some highway thrown in there. I am filling up with gas out here in San Diego; I am sure the air quality also doesn't help.

I think it is a lot more about the % of corn added to the fuel (ethanol) which LOWERS mileage, energy, etc.

In Baja (Mexico) my mileage is always better, even driving fast with a really heavy camping load. NO ETHANOL in Pemex Gasoline!

I would definitely be curious to see how other trucks are doing here in California with this crappy gas then. Not only is it more expensive than most of the country, it is also less efficient, thereby requiring more fill-ups. I am sure ecological factors are cited though as reasoning, and not the need to gather more money from the taxpayers.

Average calculation is around 23.6mpg.. I usually drive nice and easy for the 24&25numbers.. I get generally 22mpg with ect on and a lead foot... All my photos you can track with mileage.. I don't ever get any less than 22-23. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg image.jpgimage.jpg

We still need some more info.

Relative humidity, Oil viscosity, full compound analysis of your tires, 34 psi on all 4 tires? Total weight inside the cab and bed while driving? So many more factors

Also did you happen to fart at all during this trip?

I know the "sweet spot" your talking about...makes a huge difference in gas mileage. But, you have to constantly pay attention to your foot pressure on the pedal and watch the gauges like a hawk to maintain that "sweet spot". Not much fun to do all the time...but it IS possible to get great gas mileage if you want it bad enough. So, I usually just drive "crazy" and settle for 19 mpg :)
