I believe that a lot of that has to due with the dealer themselves. We also have a 2005 f-250 and it wouldn't start right and we took it to the ford dealership like 3-4 times trying to get it fixed and they said it was normal, then after the warranty went out, our turbo went out which was a pretty penny to fix since they wouldn't fix it while it was covered.

I brought mine in to the dealership after the squeaking got so bad that I didn't want to drive with the windows open. The dealer looked at the rear leaf springs and are now replacing them under warranty.

Explanations that they do not squeak are not as helpful as those sharing experience with having the issue and reporting potential solutions or lack thereof based on their findings. Just a thought....

    Good luck with that.

I hope that you have a lot of time to waste on your hands.

Fix it yourself since you know how.

    I'm done here.

Here is the response from the dealer:

The technician was able to duplicate your concern and found the problem area in the leaf spring packs causing the noise. However, after opening a case with Toyota we have found this to be an isolated incident and something that hasn't been reported from any other 2016 Tacomas as of now. There have been issues with the previous generation Tacomas, which Toyota is replacing those parts with new ones now as part of a recall campaign. However, since this is isolated and unique to your 2016 Tacoma, there is currently no fix from Toyota for this issue as of now.

With that being said, you had specifically mentioned that you did NOT want the leaf springs greased or lubricated to temporarily remedy the noise concern. The technician noted that grease would be better in this case as it would keep dirt from accumulating between the springs and perform/last longer than lubricant would. Replacing the leaf springs would put us back at square one, as it would be the same parts and this issue would return soon after.

Since we have opened a case with Toyota they do know the concern with your truck is there, but we are left with this for now until Toyota releases a remedy for these concerns.

So basically they are telling me it is known issue in the 16 but it's an isolated incident unique to my truck, How the hell does that work?

Talked them in person today and the said that Toyota acknowledges the issue but there haven't been enough reports to issue a TSB...yet. If they replace the springs then the dealer has to cover the cost as Toyota has told them to put a band aid on it until they figure it out.

I got $20 bucks that the dealer does one of two things:

A - The leaf springs they take off get cleaned, touch up paint and greased, then installed on the next guy's truck that comes in complaining of a squeaky rear, or

B - Sends them back to some Toyota hub that "re-furbs" them then utilizes them on the next guys truck that complains about a squeaky rear.

By the way, my passenger side has a very slight squeak that I cant hear and was only brought to my attention by a buddy getting out of the truck. Truck has 738 miles on it and has been off-road for about a total of 10-15 hours. I could care less about the squeak and if it gets to noisy Ill fix it myself. Been greasing bushings on my '89 Mustang for years...I'm not new to this.

Read what you posted again, they're telling you it's a known issue with previous generation Tacomas and NOT known with the 3rd generation, that's why they considered yours an isolated incident.

Not saying whether or not this issue has transferred but you are misinterpreting what they told you... at least what I understand based on what you posted.

No the problem is that they told me its unique to my vehicle which one would assume to mean a unique defect and therefore covered under my new vehicle warranty and then they are also telling me they won't replace the springs under warranty because Toyota Motor Co knows there is an issue with 2016s but haven't figured it out or released a TSB. They want to grease the spring pack and send me on my way yet I have read that many other members had their spring packs replaced and the problem was resolved. I just don't want them to a band aid on a known to be bad spring pack. I have contacted the dealer's GM and Toyota's CS. I'm waiting for an answer.

They said they recommend not replacing the springs as they have on previous generations because it may not fix the problem as of yet but offered to grease them as a temporary solution until a fix for the 16 has been determined.

I'm just going by what you're posting and I think you're misinterepting their intentions. I think they want to fix your issue but think that installing the same new parts will bring you right back with the same symptoms.

I too have the squeak, but it is very intermittent. It seemed to be worse before I installed some sumosprings. After the install it will occasionally crop up but typically resolves itself on its own. It does seem to be related to driving in dirty/dusty conditions.

Toyota is starting to get a bit ridiculous on their quality. A lot of the 2nd gen issues have still carried over.

So I did some more off-roading this weekend and now the driver side has a squeak. Only time I notice it is when exiting the vehicle, and its barely audible. My AAL' will be here Tuesday and Ill grease everything then and let folks now how it works.
