Need some leaf pack advice

I am currently running fox 2.5 coilovers in the front with camburg UCA. I am now looking to work on the rear with fox 2.0 and am unsure on what leaf pack to get. I don't carry under load often just looking for something smooth that will get me 2-3 inch of lift. Any suggestions or thoughts?

 

If your truck has the 3+overload pack you could look at the wheelers/icon/toytec 3 leaf progressive AAL, and leave the overload in for a smooth riding 2" lift in the rear. Cost effective and rides well.

Swapping to a completely new pack opens up a lot more options, at a noticeably higher price point.

thanks for the suggestions. I ended up going with the all pro standard leaf suspension kit later on that night after i made the post. I guess was a bit eager being on these forums and it being a payday.

 

Have you installed the AP Standard pack yet? How does it ride with an empty bed? I have Fox 2.5s on the rear and I think my Dakars are keeping the ride from being as plush in the rear as it is in the front on Fox 2.5s. Been debating getting a new leaf pack or removing the 3rd leaf on the Dakars.

 

My kit will be in late next week as some parts were on back order. I am also running fox 2.5's in the front but i ended up going with fox 2.0's with adjusters in the rear. I will keep you posted once i get it installed. From what I've read so far, standards ride awesome with an empty bed. I also read from several threads that when you need to use your bed for hauling the timbren bumpstops that come with the AP kit work well to handle the weight.

I have xpos with the 2.5 dscs just like the brownie build. It works great with my camper shell and bed storage. All together about 250lbs. I cant speak for the standards but i was very surprised that the ride for me was supple immediately after install. 5 k later no difference i can tell from breakin. My 6112 up front is stiffer than the rear for sure.

 

Just an update for you...I just received my order in this week (minus the bump stops...should be coming in next week) as soon as I get the time to install I'll post up a review. Shouldn't be much longer hopefully! Pic for the wait

Really interested to hear how the standard leaf packs work out for you. I don't know how I feel about them not having overload springs...I guess I could add one from my Dakars. I had the opportunity to drive with weight in the bed this week and man, the ride is SMOOOOOTH. I don't know that I'll ever load the bed down with 1400lbs for a trip, so I'd like to have some springs that are smooth even with little to no weight.

 

I am very interested as well I was looking into these springs too, I planned up grading them to the Expedition.

 

Finally got the ALLPRO kit installed. The ride on an empty bed is great can't wait to mash this thing on the dunes. The timbren bumpstops I got with the kit also work great with the fox 2.0's. The lift I got in the rear actually didn't give as much rake as I thought so I left my front the same (fox 2.5's) and I think I will leave it as is for now so when I load the bed it will even out. Overall happy with the kit rides great and definitely gained some more flex in the rear. Any more questions let me know.

Edit: I'll post pics of the full truck so you can see the rake as soon as I can. Don't have any in my phone at the moment. It wasn't bad imo and actually would prefer a little rake for when you carry a load. Also the fox shocks I'm running aren't offered in the kit options on allpro website for some reason. I'm running part # 985-26-117 shocks. Rated for 2-3" lift.

 

Looks awesome. Glad you like them. I struggle with people choosing a Dakar pack, disassembling it, adding/removing leafs when all pro offers 2 great packs that no one has ever complained about the harshness etc. I have the expos and i think they work great with 3-500lbs from the camper and stuff.

I'm on the verge of pulling my Dakars apart and removing a leaf, but I'd rather just get the right packs.

@Jake.A - How are the AP standards treating you? I saw that AP has 15% off but they're out of stock on leaf packs. I did some thinking and my plans for bed rack and RTT would add another 250lbs, and plus camping gear would total around 500-ish. Would you say the standards could carry that while being soft enough to drive empty-bed without shattering my spine?

 

AP Standards are working out great for me! Haven't had anything negative to say about them as of yet. As far as your personal gear load, id say you should be alright. If you wanna wait till next week, i can load up the bed with weight and give pics of how it holds.

And yes, they will definitely ride soft enough

 

To chime in, I have AP standards with OME shocks, with appx 70k on the shocks and 60k on the springs. IMHO, with no weight in the bed, they were too stiff, but my shocks might be a factor there. I ended up carrying a couple hundred pounds of sand around all the time, and they were fine. I've since put on sliders and a camper shell, and some other stuff. Not counting the sliders, I have a continuous 400 lbs in the bed. They springs still ride well and the truck is almost exactly level. (I have OME's in front at 2.5".) I've always thought the AP standards rode better with more weight. I'm sure I've had 600 lbs of load or more on the rear. At that point, they still ride well, but the tail is starting to be lower than the front. Hope this helps.

 

Much appreciated! I don't know if my scenario just isn't a popular one or if everyone else knows something I don't. I know installing/removing an RTT might be a pain, so I may drive around for long periods of time with it on, but I don't plan on having it on year-round.

I did finally find some ARB documentation on the Dakar leaf springs. They say if you're carrying 0-300lbs, remove the 3rd leaf. 300-600, use the pack as is. 600+ add the add-a-leaf.

 

I also found the spring rates for the OME Dakars. The AP standards are 180lb-ft/in according to @AP-Tanner in a post above, and ARB says the CS047R springs are 182lb-ft/in. I assume the dynamics are different because the AP pack has more leaves than the Dakars, but given this info, I think both would probably feel the same.

 

I installed my AP standard pack this past Saturday, today was my 3rd day commuting 18 miles to work on the freeway. These make me realize how soft my stock + AAL pack was, the AP's are stiffer but much more controlled. Im sure some of that comes from the new Icon 2.0 remote resi's that replaced 5100's. I compare it to going from a clapped out 93 Cadillac to a 2016 M3. Stiff isn't the right word, I call it taut, as it actually feels good & under more control. Have only hauled a few pounds of air around so I can't elaborate on their ride under load. Now to figure out this driveshaft vibe....

I don't know exactly which vibe you've got, and there are so many possibilities with a Tacoma. For what it's worth, I believe the AP standards (and expos) push your rear axle back about one inch. I have the standards, and I'm sure my axle sits further back than stock. One side effect is that the slip joint in the driveshaft is extended further. If it was worn to start with, extending it might cause a vibe. When you push on it, you shouldn't be able to feel any flex at all.
