You should have 4.10 gears assuming you're a 4cyl. You have an 8" ring which is referred to as the 8.4" Tacoma/T100 differential. More info would help about why you want to change the gears (larger tires, more power, etc).

If he has a 5 lugger, the rear gears are different size and ratio

^ this is true. so the 2.7 and 4.0 have different gears? i thought they both had what like a 4.10 or something.

oh and btw chris the guy at the alignment shop pissed me off, he said he couldnt get my caster to 2.7ish so its a 3.6 right now but he got the toe and camber how i wanted it.
oh and also where in the service manual is the steering info, i can find things on steering not exactly on what i am looking for. when my wheels were getting aligned there was a clank when the wheel was turned which i felt in the wheel, i am guessing it has something to do with the steering joint (if thats whats covered by that black boot) that shows when you look into the wheel well.

The 2.7 has 4:10's, and the 4.0 has 3:73's. The Alignment info is in the Specifications section of the FSM. Who did the alignment?

    LMAO!! Good point.

    OP, Sorry about that

Your gonna be past 3* with your spindles, and UCA's. Probably close to 3.5* or so. As long as the Camber and Toe are 0*, and the Caster isnt off by more than .5* or so from the left to the right, you should be good. The "Pop" sound leads me to think the LCA wasnt torqued enough to the spindle.

go with a 4.56 ratio, 4.88 might not be highway friendly with only 31.
