And why is that such a hard thing to comprehend? It's a new transmission paired with a motor that yes, Toyota has used n the past, but never in this type of configuration or mapped out in this way. Doesn't seem that hard of a concert to understand, but if you've drank the Kool-Aid I can totally see why you wouldn't get it. You'd probably think that the many who are having transmission issues have all got together and conspired to totally throw off and confuse you.

I think part of the Kool aid is when you put this transmission in D you expect it to drive like every other transmission you've ever driven before and that's not the case in this application. It's programmed now to try and conserve fuel so it climbs to the overdrive gears quickly to try and achieve optimum fuel economy and people aren't used to it so the shifting is now a "problem" and they don't like it..

There is a defeat though by just selecting S mode and either use S4 to prevent access to the two higher gears or S5 on the highway. In doing this the truck will now drive similar to the previous generations but you may also see fuel consumption like the previous gens also.

ECT will also change the shifting dynamics.

As for the delay when cold when going from reverse to forward, I've had that in my 1st gens (2.7 and 3.6l) where it would take up to 3 seconds until I would feel it engage. It would also hold gears longer and feels like it was over revving before shifting. As it warmed up the shifts became smoother.

Yes some here have legitimate concerns but I think a majority of the transmission complaints are because this one causes you to adjust your driving style to see the benefits and many just don't want to do that.

Can you be more specific as to the conditions? reverse to forward, warmed up truck, ECT on or off, D or in S... a lot of variables other than "it feels like it's slipping"

Almost agree with you, but at the same time you don't have to put the truck into S-mode to experience previous Gen mpg. It pretty much gets worse mpg than previous Gen's in regular mode. You have to really drive like a grandma to approach published mpg stats. I mean, all this talk constantly from Toyota about the rational for the current engine and trans all circle around improved mpg and in reality it's really no better under the same driving conditions than it was before.

Well, my auto transmission was literally slipping into neutral when driving down the street. I gave the truck gas and it went into neutral and freakin' redlined on me, then after a second of doing that went into gear, all while I was driving. Did that several times to me, but as others have mentioned, I guess that's normal for the truck. Ha! I have also experienced the noticeable clunks and stutters when coming to a stop and /or giving the truck gas on the freeway.

In order to get the published MPG such as the EPA requires vehicles to perform, they have to test at grandma speeds and conditions.

With summer blend now I'm starting to average 22.5 mpg on my 20 mile daily commute and I have extra weight such as a tool box, sliders and upsized tires and the truck has 6k miles on it. I never got that in the same commute with my 1st gen travelling the same route and speeds so its been an improvement in my case andclose to what's advertised.

Already heard your issues, you respond to every transmission thread listed. My question was directed at TRDinOhio and his symptoms.

As for instances of transmission slipping I've had that happen when I wasn't fully in gear on previous gens, driver error and the truck responded as such. But it is possible there are trucks with issues, my point being the rampant complaints about transmission problems are because people don't like how it operates to try to achieve better fuel consumption.

Does it do it in D, S or with ECT on or off? Have you tested all modes to see if it's consistent or limited to one mode?

It sounds like you're feathering the throttle when coming from a stop and expecting linear acceleration and when it doesn't happen, you give it more gas and the truck responds as such.

I sometimes get the same thing, that's why I started driving in S mode around town and acceleration is more predictable. When I'm lazy and don't want to think for the truck or I want to save gas, I use D.

Huh? All I do is keep it in "D", stay within 5mph of posted speeds, and try not to let myself get sucked into a version of "my trucks faster than yours", save my exploits for the ladies... Mid 20mpg is average for me and I do 100 miles a day, every day. 14.5k so far.

Driver error? for an automatic transmission? Enlighten me on this one because this is definitely new to me! I was in drive, going down the road as I described, hit the gas to accelerate and the truck slips into neutral on it's own under a load. That's not user error my friend, that's a fucked up truck! But no worries, seems like you filter out what you want to hear and ignore the rest anyway! Keep drinking that Kool-Aid! Toyota loves you guys who don't give a shit about quality!

Thinking the shift selector was properly seated in D, hit a bump, popped it into neutral, gave it gas and found out it was out of gear.

Not beyond the realm of possibility.

Keep your bitching and hostilities on the internet though because it's entertaining... gets nothing done about your truck because the internet forum wont fix it, pool money together to get you something else or have much bearing in how Toyota responds.

QC on my truck has been fine, even if it wasn't I wouldn't hope the internet fixes it by bitching on Web forums.

There's your problem "friend", your hostilities to other posters who have no issues but want to offer you insight just get you and your problems ignored.

I won't put you on ignore but I no longer care for your issues base on your remarks.
