30" Light Bar Install - Easier Than You Might Think

Yes, feels solid too me. I have only had it on a day, but I'll check it to see if any change. Doubt it though, very pleased with the quality.

Finally got around to the wiring tonight!!

 

Looks great. It also looks like the switch color and brightness are a pretty good match to stock. Did you use the MICTUNING switch? White or blue? Any changes to match the stock switch brightness?

Yep. MICTUNING. Didn't do anything but installed. Got the switch from Amazon.

Here's a 50" I did with a mictuning switch. I used info found on here and am very happy with the results!

 

I used a black oak dual row, with relentless fab brackets, was an easy install!

 

Do you not find the glare on the hood and of the dash causes eye strain at night? Seems like your dash/hood is quite lite up from it.

 

Has anyone installed the OEM FJ Aux light switch? I had it installed and understand that it is possible to change the light from the orange/red to the bluish white that's in the new Tacoma.

First off, here's my setup:

Now, one thing I don't see on here clearly pictured is how you do the wiring, it may be different for your vehicle, but I spliced mine with the truckbed light (light green wire). The rest of the wires attach as shown below.

Instructions for the OPT7 harness & the Mictuning light switch:

Mictuning to OPT7 Wiring Harness goes:
(Green w/ yellow-stripe) to (OPT7 White) - Powers light on
(1st Red w/yellow) to (OPT7 Blue) - Powers light off
(2nd Red w/yellow) to (Spliced w/ light green wire on Truckbed light) - Lets switch light up with rest of interior dash lights
(Black) to (OPT7 Black) - Grounding

With this configuration lights will display as shown above, and the lightbar will work with the engine off, as the other end of the OPT7 harness is attached directly to the battery terminals, the rest of kit is installed pretty much the same way as rysingsun's tutorial.



The whole process is really easy to do yourself, and I'd be glad to answer any questions on my experience. Also, shown above the wires are just covered with electrical tape, after ensuring it worked, I used heat shrink to get a nice tight wrap that will withstand the fury of off-road vibrations, if you're gonna do it, do it right.

 

The hood is lit up fairly well but I haven't had any eye strain or prolonged dark adaptation after the light is turned off. It does show you exactly how much dirt is on the hood though!

 

Is there a wiring harness to tap into the fog lights? I am installing a cali raised 31.5 stealth and was looking for it to turn on when I turn my fog on.

 

I haven't heard of any but that would be nice. I have a stealth Caliraised too. Sometime before the days get shorter I hope to tie it into my brights. I was going to use a relay to interrupt the control circuit of the existing harness and use the power going to the brights to energize the relay. Where I will conveniently tap in to the power for the brights I don't know yet but fuse box seems a good place to start looking. Same concept would work on the fogs. It would be nice if there was a plug-and-play harness for this but I can't picture where it would go

 

I did the Cali Raised stealth mount using the brackets provided by cali raised. I know nothing about the apex brackets but hear they are very good. If I had to do it over I probably would have gone with the Lowes/Home Depot L bracket drilled into the aluminum. The brackets provided by Cali raised in my opinion suck. The light bar rattles and bumps around and swivels up and down. And unless you have the hands and forearms of a five year old good luck reaching in there to start the crap hex wrench screw they give you. I ended up putting rubber blocks between the light and cross bar that goes across the back of the lower part of the grill to keep the light tight and stop rattling around. The opt7 wiring harness is far superior to the one Cali Raised sends you and worth the extra few bucks. IMHO

 

Try using some large flat washers to snug the mount against the light bar. The hex screw by itself isn't enough to get a good tight fit. Mine was similar until I used the washers. Now it's tight with no rattle.hth

 

Is everyone using the 5 inch L brackets or 6 Inch?

 

Thanks. Now I know why Cali Raised YouTube video ends after the guy puts on the first bracket. If they filmed the actual mount of the light bar and other bracket it would have been rated R for obscene and vulgar language.

 

I suggest ditching the L brackets. I got the APEX brackets. They are far more superior to anything out there. They are extremely sturdy and strong. No vibration or shaking at all.

 

Yes I was thinking of that too. $80 bucks for brackets. Though they appear worth it is steep but your probably right. And I need a bit of time to let my fingers and hand stop cramping. But I will probably go that route. Do you still need the washers with those brackets to make it fit right?

I'm grateful for this thread, I just ordered the Cali stealth mount kit and a 'squatch light and I'm going to tackle the install this weekend.
I hope I can pull it off myself.
