I'm about to buy two of the Stack On flush mount safes that go in between the studs of a wall. I can keep several guns semi handy and out of the reach of my three kids or their friends. I have a large safe that takes 3 grown men to move, but also isn't the easiest to access in a hurry. I'm out in the country as well and from time to time have need of slinging a few 30 rounders at a pack of coyotes or the likes. Currently I have a shotty and an AK in the closet that I'd like to put behind lock and key but also easily obtainable. This Stack On will fit that bill. For me anyway.

Everyone in this thread could use a real safe. Something fireproof, to an extent, for their firearms. Anything less than that and it's a waste of time/money for a collection regardless of size. I picked up one from Tractor Supply on a black Friday sale that'll do this just fine. Positioned next to an exterior wall also increases the time it'll withstand a house fire. Boxing it in with sheetrock to look resemble a small closet will also add further protection.

Double wide? Pfft like I'm that rich. I wish I could afford a Mormon mansion.

One of the most bad ass gun safe/safe rooms I've ever been in was in a trailer. The bed flipped up to expose the stairs to the entrance. It just looked like a trailer on a concrete pad from above, but the "real" house was underground. Owner was a former jarhead turned construction dude, last I heard he went off grid in Alaska somewhere.

A gun vault room is definitely on my list when i get a new house. Id do one at my current house but I dont plan on living here to long.

Whats funny though is making a vault room is actually not that expensive. You can pick up the door for ~2k which is a pretty decent door. Then concrete and rebar for the walls which again isnt to bad. Depends on size but 5k for one isnt unreasonable.

Vault rooms are easy enough to retrofit. You have to remove sheetrock and install barrier mesh which is fairly easy. Many commercial vaults use mesh instead of concrete and rebar because it's easy to work with, lightweight, and still provides a lot of security. Works well in the home too.

The vault I currently work in has an inner and outer vault. The inner door is a class 5-V door that weighs over 1000lbs by itself. That door is a two door system with the heavy door swinging out and a lighter mesh door swinging in. The door to the outer vault area is a heavy mesh door. The walls are metal studs and mesh barrier on both sides and covered with sheetrock. No concrete or rebar. It was quick and easy to build and extremely strong.

...^^^... that 5.56 looks like a nice and nimble size though ... especially for that size stock.

PS ... Just looked at the stock again ... it's a little bigger than I first thought.

Looks like a 7.62x39 AR variant by the look of that mag release and the curve of that AK mag.

...^^^... It could very well be, on my second look ... it looked bigger ... my last 7.62 contact was a M-14 ... lol .... loved that rifle.

FWIW ... The M-14 (7.62) was the only weapon (besides a M-60 @ 7.62) that could stand up to an Ak-47 in a sustained 100+ meter firefight.

I can believe that, .308 turns most cover into concealment.

You mean a 7.62x39? Another 5.56 would have clashed with my M&P. :duel:

Been looking at some 22's for suppressor hosts and there are some badass 22's out there.
I just foun a GSG MP40 22 and that's a cool looking gun, classic look with an inexpensive caliber.
    Also found a M1 carbine style 22LR.
I also found the compact (commander) version of the GSG 1911-22.

I'm gonna need more than 1 suppressor for all of these.

It's definitely a 7.62x39, can tell by the lowers mag release / curve of the mag. Also, totally different 7.62 cartridge than an M1A. Ak is x39 and M1A/M14 is a .308(7.62x51).

As for the whole standing up to an AK, definitely not the case. Not sure if you meant to say 100m, but 100m is very close range for any rifle, and at that range there's very little difference in lethality for most combat rifle rounds. Most are effective out to 300-400m, and a lot of rifles for considerably further. Also, AK's are considered to actually have a shorter accurate range than most other assault rifles, usually used within 200m. Just about any 5.56mm rifle will hold its ground to an AK, and have a further range for engagement (unless you're running a 5.56 SBR).

Really hard though to just say AK vs M14, or anything vs anything really. Where AK's beat all competition is generally in it's reliability/ruggedness/simplicity, and having more round energy within 75m than other assault rifles. Modern 5.56 mil-spec rifles, as well as .300blk(7.62x35) are just as, if not more capable, than AK in direct combat scenarios. Also hard to equally compare an assault rifle round (5.56/7.62x39/7.62x35/etc) to a battle rifle round like the .308/7.62x51...apples and oranges.
