    Hello Tacoma World,

I am here to supply you with the noob question of the day. I have searched the forum and have not found quite what I am looking for so I figured I would ask.

I am new to the world of Toyotas and I am currently trying to get into a 2016 Tacoma SR. I am trading in a 2015 Subaru WRX. I live in Laramie, WY.

At the moment I have an offer from my local Toyota for my trade in plus $7,000 cash out the door. The exact truck is a double cab white SR model with the tow package, convenience package, and the upgraded black alloy wheels.

Overall I will be about $8,000 in because in the state of Wyoming tax and licensing is handled by the courthouse and not the dealer. This will run me about $1,000.

I am just hoping for some wisdom as I am new to the Toyota world and the market is very foreign to me because these vehicles hold their value so well.

Is this a fair deal? Should I take it? Or is my lack of Toyota knowledge making me an easy target for getting bent over.

Here is the link to the listing (it is incorrectly labelled as an SR5): http://www.toyotaoflaramie.com/new-Laramie-2016-Toyota-Tacoma-SR5-3TMCZ5AN0GM029662

    Thank you in advance!

Way to much for a sr5. I paid 36500 Canadian for my 2015 dclb trd sport.

Don't trade it. Sell it instead. That would save you a couple grand easy.

I'd like to. But I have had it listed for a month now and have only had hits from the annoying third party sellers who want to consignment sell for me.

That's weird. Down here it'd probably sell it a heartbeat.

Which version of the WRX do you have? I had a base '15 and beepi.com sold it for me in a few days. I had a check in hand for $24K. (I paid 26K new)

Anyways, back to your Tacoma, Don't get it dude... Go for at least an SR5 package. That price does not seem good at all.

I wish! I have it listed on Cars.com, Wyoming craigslist, and Denver Craigslist. But all channels are silent.

I have a '15 base model. But it has the full factory STI body kit, STI performance exhaust, added factory fogs, hella horns, rally armor, etc. etc. blah blah. And it only has 9,600 miles. Paid 26K as a certified pre owned with 1,500 miles and all those things added on.

I'm glad I asked, though. Ya'll are a helpful and timely bunch!

Before you trade in a reliable desirable Subaru, please check this forum for all the problem threads of the 2016 Tacoma.

found your ad. The problem is you're asking $29K for a $22K car. Something to ponder.

Also, what you have is not a 'full factory STI body kit' -- that does not exist, what you have is the Subaru front/mid/rear plastic diffusers. it's really just a couple hundred bucks in plastic pieces. I'd unmarry the AP and sell it with out mentioning it. People who know subaru's knows to stay away from cars who's had a tune. God knows what kind of tune you put in there (even if it's an OTS map) It's been mentioned that this FA gen subaru's computer knows when an AP has been married to the car.

Might be why the OP is getting rid of the WRX. Unauthorized mods.

Here is a thread dedicated to what other members have paid for their Tacoma. May be able to use it as a comparison or guide. Especially if you want to upgrade from a SR.

Appreciate the advice. Not sure why its still listed at 29K.. I changed the price weeks ago. Guess I should be more observant. I thought I'd test the market with the tune but it's obviously failed. Also, it was just a stage 1 OTS map. Been off the car now for about 1,000 miles. No issues.
Not why I am selling it. The car is perfectly fine. The roads where I live are just terrible if you want to keep your front bumper.

What did you change the price to? If you are really trying to sell it at fair market value, put it up at 23K obo. Remember, you can buy a brand new '17 and have it shipped from heuberger for 25ish.

Changed it to 26K obo in case anyone wanted to get wrapped up in the useless mods. But I have had dealers regularly offer me 23-24K for trade in so at that rate I might as well just trade :notsure:

And i'll explain why. They offer you an 'inflated' trade in value, because they make up the difference in the car you're buying. Case in point, the SR Taco you mentioned. They give you what looks like an awesome trade in value, but in reality, it's because they are making a ton of $$$ off you in the new car you're buying.

if you don't believe me, just call their bluff.. Next dealer that give's you 24K trade in, just tell them you'll take it, but you're not buying a car from them. See if they are still willing to give you 24K.

Definitely the case. They offered me a 26K trade in when I mentioned a 4Runner. I asked them to just buy it for that and they got mad haha.

yep. Also the current gen 4 runner has been out so long, I know dealers have huge incentives on them.

Anyways, take your time on the purchase and make sure you get the truck you really want. if I were you, I would go at least the SR5 package.
