Noob with first gen 5 lug long travel

Yup... another new guy joining the cult of TacomaWorld. I just bought a 5 lug tacoma 1st gen with a whole bunch of mods on it about 2 weeks ago. It has 135K on it and runs like a champ. It has a J&D long travel set up in the front. It's pulling about 14 inches of travel with 10 king CO. The rear I would say is a mid travel set up and have plans to build up to my taste. The rear has a dever leaf pack. With 14 inch fox 2.0 and about 10 inches of usable travel. The 2.4L engine has headers, and cat back, K&N intake, eletric fan...just bolt on stuff. Inside I have PRP race seats with 4 point crow harness. I'm running 32x11.5-15 tires and only touches the front fenders when I slam down hard. The truck is geared with 456's and a detroit auto locker and is nice for some street and enough torque for hills. I'm sure I left out more stuff. Sorry about the pics I have right now but more will come.

It is great for if you are broke and want something good for street and dirt. I'd rather have an air or e locker. On dirt you need to get some power to the ground first before it "locks in". They lock in and out so you need to learn the feel of them. For hitting a whoops section or going up hills, they work great too.

 

lol sounds like me. I talked myself into saving up for the arb air locker instead. I read a lot of reviews about it clunking and popping often..have you experienced this?

The truck has an exhaust and the suspension makes noise to begin with you can't hear any noises from my perspective. It's not my DD. If it does make noises I'd say they aren't too loud or sound horrible.

 

Take that back. You have a 2 gen. I'd save up for the nice locker. My other noises cover up any diff noises I could have.

hey do u have any clue where you found the 5 lug deaver pack?

 

Well I'm running a dever J59 leaf pack with extended shackles(6 or 7"). If you wanna know the shackle length I'll measure it for you. I got a bed cage in-order to fully use my springs which is about 11" of wheel travel.

If you are looking for used ones check out dezertrangers, they pop up time to time. I heard allpro has something as a equivalent. Not sure what pack it is.

I have no idea where you are in socal, but if around the corona area kartech sells them or go onto deavers website or find a place close to where you live is my best advise.

how do you like the JD kit? thinking about getting the chase kit myself.

 

I love my JD kit. It looks sick on the truck. Only thing I wish was different is to not run king shocks. They are expensive to rebuild and revalve to get them dialed it to my needs. But the kit is super strong. I never had a problem besides a clearance issue with the driver side UCA and steering coupler. It's a really fast fix. I also replace my lower ball joints every season. You can also long travel the rear and the truck is unstoppable.
