    ok guys,

I've been a taco world lurker for some months now. I also went by a toyota dealership today for routine service and asked the same question I'm about to ask y'all.

I have a 2013 2.7l taco I purchased used. It was only used for a rental fleet so there is no other odd mods on it. It came prewired for a backup camera. The dealership had never heard of this and said they either come wired completely or not.

I purchased a OEM camera for it that fits in the designated plug in the tailgate.

My question is this: What kind of cable harness do I need to get this thing to work? I removed the in-dash screen and looked around but can't find where the cable stops (I assume) before it connects to the factory screen..

I appreciate yall's help in advance and any pics you might have would be great.

The 2013 camera is wired into the rear view mirror. Start the truck and put it into reverse and see what happens.

You have to have the correct rear view mirror. A autodim/temp/compass/rearview will run ~$200 or a bit under used.

Make sure what you buy has the matching 14 pin connector to connect to the pin that is above your sunglasses holder.

You'll also need a trim piece to go on the new mirror if it doesn't come with one. 87818-04010

If you need a picture of the correct mirror, I can take one. I'm also a base '13 owner. Love it. And dealers are ignorant for the most part, unless you catch a tech who has personally modified their own.

The alternative to a mirror is a touch screen wiring kit so you can have the camera pop up on the touch screen itself. There used to be people selling these kits on eBay and such. That is, I am assuming by in dash screen you mean the touchscreen.

Some people didn't like the display popping up in the rear view which is why these kits exist.

Works out in your favor since you wouldn't have to waste your money on a mirror just to have a cam display pop up.

    Edit: like this

NOTE: the parking guidelines are a function of your rear view mirror and will not move to the radio. The large screen more than makes up for the loss of this feature as it becomes much easier to see objects etc. If you would really like to keep the parking guideline feature you will need to replace your camera with our CS-14TAC camera module, which has the lines built in.

    .
Personally, if you are adding a camera, I like the image on something other than the rear view mirror.

The rear view mirror image is very small to me.

    Good luck with the mod.

Yea for sure. I dont think I would like the rear view camera in the rear view mirror. If i got a 6.1" factory screen, might as well use it for backup. Going to order harness that Clearwater Bill posted and hopefully have an update soon.

    Thanks again everyone.

Ok so I just took another peek behind my coin tray... Never saw this before but is the connector pictured in the bottom the one that runs to the camera?

Take a better picture. can't really tell. I have a 12 and bought the camera for the tailgate then bought a 13 headunit which now displays the camera image. I made up my own harness. All that is needed to to buy a connector that plugs into the back of the headunit then run the wires down to the fuse box where the connector to the back camera is found.
