Sorry to hear OP. Hope it works out. Only thing I can offer is to tell you that your 4runner is a much better and more reliable vehicle than the 2016 Tacoma.

My brother in law's 03 4runner v6 has 290k and runs like a buttered pig, trans shifts great.

Yours was up to the task.

    Good luck.

Sorry to read that you're having truck troubles...on vacation nonetheless! More than likely the local dealership and Toyota can get you into a loaner while they repair yours. I'd find it hard to believe that any service department anywhere would not work with you on getting to The Magic Kingdom! Anything less would just damn unAmerican!!!!

More than likely, I too will be heading to Florida for a cruise before the summers out. We have a 05 Sequoia that has 152000 miles and it is our "go to car" for traveling and my wife's daily driver. Nevertheless, I will drive it to Florida which will be it's 7th or 8th trip because it has been so freakin reliable! Then again, I have considered driving my Tacoma. It has 3000 miles. The Sequoia just has so much more room.

Good luck! I REALLY hope it all works out for you!!

I have no doubt that the 4Runner would have made it, but I wanted to take the Tacoma. More cargo room, Better Navigation, and it's fun to drive.

The 4Runner has had it's own share of problems. Head gasket, differential, CVs, etc. It's a good truck and in retrospect it would have been a better choice.

...^^^... Tell dealer and call Toyota corporate and see if they can put you in a rental to finish your vacation and repair your truck there.

Problem is your trip routing plan.

Good luck and someone somewhere should be able to make this work for you if you explain your situation to the right person.

PS. I would try to start calling people NOW on 800 road service number to maybe establish emergency contacts and record for Monday.

Congratulations. I hope you enjoy it. I really like the way mine drives. It's a lot of fun and will eventually get all the bugs worked out.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
IMO now at 1k would be a sweet time to change out the rear diff fluid to synthetic then maybe give a tug on the leaf spring u-bolts. Maybe grease the driveshaft u-joints, too

...^^^... You will love the Ridgeline ... had a 2013 and it was most trouble free vehicle for me in many years ... but it is not a real mid-size truck like the Tacoma.

I do miss the Honda 4WD (really AWD with a rear locker) cutting through the rain on the interstates and snowy ski roads.

I'm surprised the usual suspects haven't chimed in and tried to blame the OP and accused him of causing the issues he's having. Guess those guys are all offline sipping on the Toyota Kool-Aid.

Which trim are you looking at? I am on the waiting list to see the first Sport that comes into my local dealer. They told me by the end of this month there should be one on the lot.

To the OP sorry to hear about your issues. I've had clutch issues - extremely hard shifting... check your clutch fluid level first off if thats good and clutch pedal feels normal, your tranny is probably toasted. Id be asking for a new truck it it was me.

You should be able to sit at idle and go thru the gears EASILY with the clutch pedal depressed... turn off truck and try and go thru gears with the clutch should be able to do that too, if tranny is messed up you wont be able to shift. Sounds to me like your tranny is toast. This same thing happened to me on my Honda CRV the tranny was always hard to shift from day 1 .... 4 years later the tranny was toast and my mechanic said it looked like it was broken for a long while - the case was cracked.

That said... don't take your kids down to the pond by the hotel and let them wade in the water .... specially after dark! There's gators in that there pond.

He can ask but likely will not get one. At best case he'll end up with a rebuilt tranny

With all the other drive line & brake issues?? I'd be SCREAMING safety safety safety at the dealership in the am when everyone is sitting in the waiting room getting serviced.

Does it stick in 6th only? I would downshift to fifth every 50 miles or so. Or just run in 5th the whole way.

My defender stuck in fifth once after driving 400 miles flat out. Some man handling got it out. Now I make it a point to downshift once and a while (which is a necessity on my 2016 four banger Tacoma).

Either of those may help, but both should be completely unnecessary.
