Lifted '16 Tacomas

Any pics of a lifted 2016 DC OR with stock tires and wheels? I want to use these tires before purchasing new ones.

 

You won't like the look. The tires are too small for a lift IMO. Just sell them to offset the price of new ones.

Notes on TCA UCA Install

1. The Zerk fittings are very difficult to install, since the threads are filled with powder coat. Had to tap out the threads using a 1/4 x28 tap. Harbor Freight has a cheap set of taps for $15. It would also have some extra Zerk fittings on hand as well, if the first ones get striped out.

2. I had planned on cutting the UCA top bolt as I had read that is was easier then bending the inner wheel well frame. I had a couple of extra bolt on hand fo this reason. I started with the driver side, and after cutting the bolt and trying to install the new bolt in the opposite direction I quickly realized the brake lines are in the way, so it didn’t seem this would work. Not sure how others have done it this way, but I ended up bending over the inner wheel well frame a bit to thread the bolt in from the front. Same method was used on the driver side.

Notes on Icon 51000 Progressive Add-A-Leaf Install…

1. The paint on this is very low quality and was already flacking off in the box. I would expect this to be power coated. Also the center pin bolt is also very low grade, as it striped very easily when tightening down. I replaced it with a Zinc coated Grade 8 bolt, worked much better.

2. The rear spring clamp had to be cutoff as to not interfere with the AAL. No problem with an angle grinder.

3. I installed the AAL without the overload spring and ended up with 1.5” of lift in the back. Had to cutoff the brake cable bracket, since it attached to the overload spring. Doesn’t seem to be problem.

4. The pinion angle went from 7 to 9 degrees. I didn’t use any shims, so I am hoping a 2 degree change is not that significant.

1. The Coilovers are simple to install once everything is out of the way. No real issues, pay attention to the spacers on the bottom mount, as the longer one needs to face the front.

2. The rear shocks are fairly simple to install, the bottom mount bushing that were installed from the factory were not the right size, so I had to replace with an alternate set that was included. Also need to use the metal bushing inside that rubber one which is included. The directions really don’t mention it, I guess it assumes you know what you are doingJ.


I had heard that the front coil overs come set from the factory for 2” of lift, however I am only measuring 1”, so I plan to get a spanner wrench and do some adjustment. I was also told that turning locking ring 4 times will add 1/2 inch. Here are the measurements – measured from the center of the wheel hub to the fender.

Getting alignment tomorrow after I adjust the coilovers, will post some final pics then….time for a beer, or two.

 

Adjustable Bilstein 5100s set at 2.5" and 1" Toytec block in the rear.

 

I'm running the same setup.
I'm at 24" in the rear and exactly 23 1/4" up front. The truck has slight rake. I'm gonna crank my coilovers up to 24" up front...that's where it was at before it sagged a bit.
On the Fox extended CO's (883-02-025) you really need to crank them up to get 3" of lift. With the 600# spring I can see that these are specifically made for 2nd gen but will "work" on a 3rd gen. Post pics once you get them cranked up. I ordered a spanner wrench also. GL.

 

Not really sure since it's not my truck. They are the scs ray 10's, which I think only come in a few sizes

What is your measurement on the threads showing on the Coilovers, I am wondering how much I have to crank them down to get close to 23". Also did you notice much difference in the ride at that setting?

The shop that installed them for me told me that out of the box there was 2" showing. They cranked it up another inch so there should be 3" of thread. At 23" the ride is awesome..couldn't ask for anything better.

 

How's the ride with the Bilsteins set at 1.75? I have mine on .85 with 1 inch in the rear and it still rides and handles great. I'm raising mine to that setting on Wednesday and hope the ride isn't too bad. Any vibrations or alignment issues? Looks good!

 

Mine has never been set any lower than 2.5" but I'm always amazed at how smooth it rides on the interstate, like absolutely no vibrations and the alignment hasn't been any trouble. Got it aligned when I did the lift and it's been straight ever since.

 

That's great to hear! I was worried about the alignment and the ride being too stiff once I raise mine. So the 2.5'' is the third notch, right?

 

2.5 is the highest, and the lowest is factory ride height from my understanding. There were 4 notches.
