My commute. I suspect the good mpg is partially due to the elevation change.

Just coming into this thread and this is the one thing that jumped right out at me. Splitting the difference is not how you math, average of 22 mpg and 30 mpg is ~25.4 mpg, either way you're slightly over the actual 24 mpg EPA highway rating on your truck by 6% for a single 120 mile round trip. Kudos all around. Also, worth pointing out that a n=1 is indicative of nothing at all. Case in point:

I feel ya. But the 22 MPG back home is average, not when I baby the thing. I believe I can pull 24 on the way back.

Nice Taco tachometer on your Prius!

    (22+30) / 2 = 26. That is exactly how you math.

No, it isn't and it's the very reason that using mpg is a silly way to talk about economy. I quickly ran it in my head before but let's do the math together shall we? OP travelled 60 miles each way and got 30 mpg on the way out, that's 2 gallons of fuel consumed. On the return trip he travelled the same 60 miles but got 22 mpg. 60 divided by 22 gets you the fuel consumed, ~2.73 gallons. Now here's where you didn't math correctly: 120 miles total divided by the 4.73 gallons of total fuel consumed gets you 25.37 mpg. My off the top of my head (and very correct) math was off by .03 mpg. The difference between the not math average and the real math average grows the great the proportional difference between the two figures and always skews to the lower number.

I love these real time mpg gauges. It's turned into a game for every tank to try to best the previous tanks mpg.

Here's the trip home on the same route. The route is aledo texas to fort worth texas.[IMG] [IMG]
so that is about 24.2 average. One caveat, on the way home i was stopped at a RR xing for about 3 minutes idling. So it could've been a little better.

Doesn't anyone know how to figure real miles per gallon when they fill up a tank anymore?
You know, zero the trip odometer when they fill up, drive 250-350 miles so you have used most of the tank, fill up again, and then divide the trip odometer's miles by the gallons it took to fill up.
These "estimated" computer figures are just that, ... estimated... and have no real world meaning as to exactly how many gallons are used to go so many miles (Miles Per Gallon).

That's Panamint Springs for you. Our route the next day wasn't set in stone and I had concerns about when I might get the chance to gas up again. Piece of mind was worth the $9 premium I paid that night.

Did you know that your trip meter is not always exact either?

It looks as if the 2016 isn't a whole lot different (with the smaller engine and new technology) than the 2005-2015 4.0 litre engine, in 4x4 automatics? My range is 14-20 with rarely above 17 (as most my miles are for business getting 15-16 city/hwy. combo miles.) Of course, on Calif. gasoline 90% fuel and 10% BS corn alcohol.

What exactly are you proving here? Why do you choose to only show the average mpg for distances of only 15 miles on average? Doesnt give a full picture and is misleading at best.

How so? By law, the odometer must be accurate with stock tires. I do have 1" taller tires and that does lower the odometer reading by a small %... I have considered that.
