Anaheim made the right choice IMO.
Except for the Lupul trade. I can't remember the exact trade specifics but Lupul is Mr. Glass.

Reading the comments makes me wonder if these fans realize the expansion draft would've taken Andersen anyway.

 

I tend to think Andersen had an edge skill wise now, but gibson has more upside.

 

He did play his best hockey ever for two years which ended up with the Leafs in the playoffs.

Then there was the Gardiner part of that trade.

I have a buddy whose a big Ducks fan. He just texted me "FUCKING TORONTO AGAIN" lol.

I agree though that it's the right choice but, odds are, he was only that cheap because they wanted him out of their conference with a non playoff team.

 

Anaheim and Toronto are in bed like LA and Philadelphia.

 

So, just for the record, the Leafs now basically traded Kessel for Andersen with a minor leagers going each way. Oh and TO retaining 2 million in salary. I can live with that.

Lets see if Anaheim picks up a scoring winger like they need.

I don't think Bernier honestly cares what happens this off season, or in any off season, when he has this to play with at home:

 

Everything points to him wanting to get paid, big time. I think someone will grab him for way too much money.

He's a 2nd line winger who had benefited a lot from playing with one of the top 5 players in the game... maybe even top 3.

 

The funny thing with Stamkos is how little extra money he will make if he leaves Tampa. Yzerman has been quoted at being willing to only go to $8.5 million/year because of how cash strapped Tampa will be once all of their other great young players start looking to cash in this year and next. Over 8 years that's 68 million dollars. If Stamkos hits free agency most teams seem to be willing to pay him 10 million per. Since the max another team can sign him to is 7 years he can only make about 70 million dollars. So he's only gaining 2 million dollars by leaving Tampa. Maybe he gains another 3-6 million at the end of that deal at 35 but that's a pretty big gamble too since, given the way the league is, he might be too old and fat by that point to cash in again.

It's a tough call.

@OZ-T or anyone else, is it legal in the NHL to sign a UFA player to a one year 10 million dollar deal and then resign him on game one 2016/2017 to a 8 year 10 million dollars per year deal? I wonder if someone will try that...
