scored some nice 4Runner (1997) bucket seats from pull-a-part today and would like to get them installed into my 2004 Tacoma. Mounting doesn't quite match up. Taco had the 60/40 bench setup and have lived with it for long enough!

Do I need to swap mounting brackets? Order some new ones ?

    Thanks!

Ps. I know I'll upset a few of you habitual tw'ers by gettin this seat thread goin, but I'm new here and attempted a few searches to no avail. Cheers!

Yeah, the search feature on TW sucks. Better to use Google with 'Tacoma world' as one of the search words.

I just swapped the mounting brackets from the Tacoma seats onto the 4runner seats.

were your original taco seats bench seats (either 60/40 or straight) ? I was attempting to swap em out and my original seats have the bolt and an additional bar in each of the front mounts, which sit in the truck right behind each respective front bolt.

Took them to a shop to ask their opinion and was told I'd need to have a new bolt mount machined for me.

This endeavor is seeming much more difficult than it initially seemed upon reading the first gen taco/third gen 4R seat swap threads!

Best way to directly search TW using Google is type all of the following minus the quotations:

"site:tacomaworld.com insert whatever you want to search here"

Works for any other website out there as well.

Picture? Mine were bucket seats but I was under the assumption that the mounting points were the same.

Were your seats from identical year 4Runner/tacoma?

    I'll post pictures later

3 of the mounting points already line up exactly (if you got the right interior package style seats) so all you have to do is take off the front outside (door side) feet and grind or drill out the rivets holding them on, then do the same to the 4runner seats and swap them using 10mm or 7/16" nut and bolts to hold them secure and that's it, you have an exact bolt in replacement set of buckets.

the holes will be "just slightly" off a hair, but you can still get the threads started and then they will bolt right in

the only note of caution is the travel of the seat may go too far to the rear when the seat track moves so you need to watch that and you might want to add a bolt to the track as a "stopping" pin to limit how far it moves. I never thought it was an issue when I did it on my 99 but you can smush stuff you tossed behind the seat or a back passenger with the longer travel and if you are short, you will not have the full forward position the stock seats reach. just figure everything is going to be like 2" farther to the rear
