:fingerscrossed: I probably shouldn't have even responded. It is certainly a touchy subject. I'll stick to PM's moving forward.

Nothing wrong with a civil discussion (which it has been so far). Props to you for allowing it to continue until it takes a turn for the worse

I certainly respect your opinion and will try to respond without getting political. First point about the drivers license. There is no constitutional right to drive. There is for gun ownership. Apples and oranges. Trying to relate the two usually turns as many people away as it would to start a discussion. Second point about a permit. We already submit to a Federal background check. How would this permit be better or any different?

The only problem with your analogy is that there is no amendment regarding driving while there is regarding bearing arms. Don't get me wrong, would love to never see a firearm misused. When you look at FBI stats and compare them to the number of guns, only .002% (two thousandths of a percent) are used in murders or accidental deaths each year. In 500 years, we'll reach 1% - assuming gun ownership and murder rates stay the same. (ownership has been rising while murders have been decreasing). The issue is not guns, but people - a tiny minority of people - who misuse them.

Looks like I'll be buying a S&W shield this week. My wife has her own guns and shoots, but was never really interested in CC. This happened one mile from our house last week: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...sted-alleged-series-threats-article-1.2679518
She said she wants something to carry, as she is actually allowed to carry at work too. Strike while the iron is hot I say. Hate to spend the money, but when the wife says buy a gun, you buy a gun.

I'm jelly...one of the only pistol manufacturers I haven't had the pleasure of owning. I've had glock, sig, beretta, ruger, s&w...never HK! Man, would love a USP45 tactical. Just like idea of owning the worlds first crew served pistol lol. For the price though I'd likely rather get an FNX 45 Tactical.

When the constitution was written there weren't automobiles. I'm not going to snowball this any further as I've been in similar conversations elsewhere and people are polar on this subject and it degrades quickly. But not everyone with a little money in their pocket needs to replace it with a gun.

I read a mention of background checks and gun safety classes.

I took a hunters safety course a long time ago at the age of 13 before I could go in the woods hunting with my dad, some years back while my state does not require to do so I still went and took an NRA course as well.

The key to gun safety is being educated, it was easier for me growing up because I was raised around firearms at a very early age, I agree that many need to take a gun safety course if they are not educated at all about firearms, it is in their best interest to do so.

Regardless of how many background checks, Federal/State or both along with gun safety classes, a criminal is called a criminal because they do not care what the law says, they always have and always will get their firearms any way that they can get their hands on them.

Making more gun laws never has and never will fix stupid nor will it ever keep a criminal from gaining access to a firearm. If stricter gun laws truly worked Chicago would be Mayberry.

IMO, Because of the events taking place in America, It is more important today than any other time for every law abiding citizen to know gun safety, own a firearm, know how to use it and can hit what they are aiming at.

Keep booger finger off trigger until you have to pull the trigger.

Everything on the gun is a brand-new design .By now, I believe you,ve read that the rifle is fully a Ruger precision rifle from them. Yes it is an atlas bipod. I believe the quad rail is 20 inch with a 24 inch barrel. The scope is only temporary and is a Nikon 44 mm. After I break the barrel in the real scoop will go on.

Not to hijack this thread again but in answering his question
One thing that I will add about the trigger, Ruger says in there advertismeant that it is adjustable from 3 1/2 to 5 pounds, and gladly I'm calling bullshit. It uses Ruger's two-stage trigger. the first stage measured 1.3 oz, the second stage will take it 1 lb. 11 oz. making the second stage only 8 oz. When you take up on the first stage and your skin touches or feels the second stage, it's already over!

I've renigged on my previous post of tying it to the drivers license. After some thought on the throne this morning it's all or none. The 2nd should be upheld to its fullest. All additional regulation is just keeping the guns from honest people. Look at Mexico, Australia, Chicago, and D.C. Gun free areas for the honest folk to get abused.

Nikon makes great scopes. That's why I already owned that one but it is specific to a .308. The one that needs to go on the gun needs to be able to reach out a mile. Unfortunately, you get into big boy scopes at that point and they start around $1000 and skyrocket from there

Too rich for my blood. But will be a sweet setup.

Apples to oranges but I got around 1200 bucks in a .22 build.... 1.5lb trigger, 18" stainless fluted barrel, all Kidd except the stock and receiver... With an 80 dollar scope on her. It's a tack driver and cheap to shoot but needs new glass.

I've had ARs, AKs, SKSs.... Sold them all. These days I'm happy plinking with a 22. I can afford the ammo and despite some's recommendations can go without hearing protection without ringing in my ears.

Lots of ARs i can barrow around here when i get the urge to do a little more... Or when we are blowing up tannerite.

The scope I have one there right now is a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP. That is the same scope I have on my Remington 700 as well. Love it! It is on the cheaper end of the more serious scopes.
