I was just wondering how often to do oil changes the dealer say to do on every 10,000 when using full synthetic? The maintenance light comes on every 5,000 so I was just wondering if this was accurate.

I always thought the oil itself can go for longer but the filter can't. I could be wrong and have no facts to back this theory up. I change my oil at 5k and have full synthetic. Finding deals on oil and having the Fumoto valve make it reasonably cheap and extremely easy to do.

I change oil and filter @ 7500 with synthetic. I was changing oil @ 7500 and filters @ 5000 but said the heck with it do both @ 7500. I can go 7500 without adding oil. Not sure I could go 10,000. I like the Fumoto valve but oil does drain a lot slower. You make up some time on the back end because with the Fumoto you can go straight in to a 5 qt. jug.

I change my oil twice a year regardless of mileage with Mobile1. Once in May before the hot summer, and once in November before the cold winter. It gives me peace of mine during the extreme temperatures. I tend to average around 6-7k miles every oil change.

With my fumoto valve, it makes it tool-less, and generally costs about $30 total for Toyota filter and mobil1 oil which tends to go on sale around those times too.

I change oil and filter every 5000 miles. I use Synthetic and a Toyota filter. It's proably overkill, but I also like knowing that if I do forget to do an oil change or if I can't get to it for 6000 miles or so I'm still fine. It's so easy to do it on these trucks anyway.

I run regular sae oil and toyota filter. Change it every 3k miles. Have ran synthetic on some of my other trucks before and changed it every 5k. Whichever oil you use i recommend you use the toyota oem filters.

Agreed the OEM filters are much better. I just called my local dealer not that I let them do anything to my truck anyway, but they say 10,000.

I also recommend taking pics each time you do oil changes and maintenance of the odo and etc. Its just provides more proof that you did it if you ever need warrenty work. Prolly over kill but i do it anyway.

They said the maintenance light comes on every 5k recommended to rotate tires and 10k to change oil but that's just their recommendations of course.

great Idea about the pictures, the last time I got my last "free" oil change my truck was a mess with oil and greasey finger prints even after their "awesome" free bs care wash.... never again!

I guess the Dealer can make up whatever number they want but id you look at the Owners Manual it will tell you an Oil and Filter change every 5K.

I also take a paint marker and write the mileage on the top of my Oil Filter.

Agreed it makes me feel better to change it every 5k, 10k seems like a really long time and unsafe. and its like a 30 minute job anyway.

It's pretty cheap insurance to me. 5000 miles with synthetic. It's also a good reminder of the other things that need to be ccheckedom a regular basis.

I change every 5,000 with regular oil and 10,000 with synthetic.

Has anyone ever heard of increasing the oil viscosity as your engine gets older? Is this a bad practice?

I change my oil every 10K using Mobil 1 Extended Protection. I change the filter every 5K using a stock filter, then top off with 1/2 quart of oil. I figure if
qnyla got over 400K miles out of his Tacoma using 8-12K mile oil change intervals... 10K should be just fine. I just don't think it's a good idea to go to far over 5k on the filter.
