Well I only put at most 4K on my truck a year, so I change it once a year.

You guy do realize (I hope) the longer a dealer states you can go on an oil change, the better it is for the sales department and eventually for the maintenance department too.

If I use Mobil 1 EP I feel very safe going 9K before a change, if regular Mobil 1, 7K max. I don't use dino, but if I did, no more than 4-5K.

NEVER 10K on straight dino oil. It just isn't tough enough to take it.

I'm approaching a year and a half of ownership and have less than 5k miles on the truck. Only 1 oil change so far, and due up for another in July. So I'm more on a time schedule than a mileage.

Every 5K miles. Mobil 1 Full Synthetic & Mobil 1 Filter. Had my oil analyzed by Blackstone Industries at 80K miles and according to the report the oil was still in great condition. Report also mentioned I could go as long as 9k miles but I just can't break old habits and feel much better changing it at 5k. I do all my own oil changes and purchase the 5 Quart jug from Wal-Mart for around $25.00(Only reason I shop there).

Some of you need to get out there and use your trucks. No reason to pay for something to sit on the side of your house.

I'm running Mobil 1 Full Synthetic.

Still going to do it every 5k like the manual says. No reason to give Toyota any excuses to not want to fix something for free.

It's every 5 thousand for a 2013, dino or synthetic.

I just started changing the oil myself thanks to a Fumoto valve and advice I got from TW members. I use a Toyota OEM filter and full synthetic 5w-30 and change at or before 5k miles. I had my oil analyzed at Blackstone Labs and they recommended going longer between oil changes but it's easy to do and not terribly expensive so I'm sticking to 5k.

I have a simple mind mechanically...what damages could occur besides ruining your engine?

Isn't that enough. It's the single most expensive item on the truck.

Agreed. But his wording implied it was monetarily advantageous to a service dept to advise long oil change intervals for, I'm guessing now, more fixes over time.

I ask because I personally can think of only 1 person I know that had to replace an engine (Lincoln Navigator and he acknowledged he neglected oil changes). That being said, I can't imagine increasing # of engine failures is a solid business plan. Which is why I asked what other minor issues could arise that make the "long oil change interval = more $$" statement accurate?

Most people won't replace an engine. They'll just trade it in and get a new truck. Dealer then sells truck with half blown motor for over kbb.

I believe the longer OCI is about appeasing the EPA, not the customer. I may be wrong.

My dealership usually has the filters for $4 a pop, so I pick them up there

That's a good deal, I go Amazon also as they are cheaper than my local dealer.

I buy 5 qt jugs of Mobile 1 at Wally World for about $25 and change oil every 10K. I put on a new filter at 5K when the light comes on. Reset and start over. Has been working since new 9 years and 172,000 miles ago. The only other time I add oil is to top off after the filter change.

For those with the fumoto valve, have you been worried about it snagging on things and ripping off?
