Just thought I'd share how I've been changing the oil in my 2TR-FE since I bought it last year with 130k miles.

Costco sells a 6 quart case of Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W-30 for $36.99, however every so often it goes on sale for $26.99. When it does I buy three cases (which is the max). I always make sure I have at least two or three cases stacked up in the garage to avoid having to pay full price in a pinch, which means if I'm in the store and I see it on sale, I buy 3 cases even if it's not oil change time.

Note that you need to be a Costco member, which I recommend because for most people it pays for itself very quickly.

FYI, it is on sale right now.

And 5W30 if that's your thing.

You can find a case of genuine 90915-YZZD1 (4 banger 2TR-FE) Toyota oil filters on Amazon for $40. $42 for 90915-YZZD3 if you have a 4.0L V6. That's ~$4 per filter.

That's $30.99+tax for a Mobil 1 full synthetic oil change with genuine a Toyota oil filter.

Here are the drain plug gaskets if you need them.

There you have it, the best bang for your buck oil change I could possibly come up with. If you can do it better, post it up!

nice sale indeed, i can usually get a 5 qt jug at Wally World for $23 put then every other oil change i have to buy that additional qt @ $7.50. Errrr :frusty:

there a couple dealerships that sell EOM filters on ebay for about $5.50

I never change my washer :sorry:

I just bought the 5 qt jug of Mobile1 at Wally World for 22.86 and the filter from Amazon was around 5 bucks. I guess by the time I buy the extra quart of oil the cost will be around 30 bucks. I have a Fumoto valve so no need for a washer. I usually by Quaker State full synthetic but the Mobile 1 high mileage oil was on sale so I decided to give it a shot.

I buy Amsoil by the case. $60 for 12 quarts. And I get my filters from Toyota for $1.50 a filter. So that's $31.50 every time I change the oil

$1.50 for a Toyota filter? Straight from the dealer or where? Are these good quality filters?

I'm topped off at 5 quarts. Have you ever just tried 5 and checked the stick?

Walmart has Mobil one synthetic for 22.88 for 5 qt jug, and there is a 12.00 mail in rebate from Mobil making your oil change pretty cheap.

I have. When I first checked it, it was ok. But after running it, it was too low. So I use 5.5 quarts.
