Makes me really anxious to see how it will look with new shoes. I've seen quite a few with upgraded shoes, but not exactly like what I plan on doing.

:amen: to that, papi. I'm still not sure if the matching body color fender flare looks better/worse than the matte, though.

I think what's putting my spirits down are the Dunlop tires and the design of the particular steelies I have. I'm probably brainwashed by the hundreds of trucks I've seen here on the forum that look like TRUCKS. I'm really itching to buy what I want, but priorities are holding me back. :D

I never really planned on doing anything with my truck, until reality struck and my tires need to be replaced, soon (earliest first quarter next year). This whole tire replacement thing led me to think that I need better wheels. And then bed caps, to racks, to sliders, to fog lights, and the list will probably go on until I get too frustrated and just stick with upgrading wheels and tires.

idk how others do it but i prioritized which mods i'd like to do first. being as you'll need tires i'd think a small lift and wheels and tires would be first. or new wheels and tires that work on stock suspension. i focused on lift and wheels and tires first and then started moving on a little at a time from there. also look on here for small simple mods you can do inbetween bigger ones like now i ordered the lights to do the raptor grill mod i'll probably have maybe $35 in materials

Other than the fact that mines a PreRunner and yours is a 4X4, my truck is identical to yours. The best thing I did was having the grille surround painted black. The next best thing I did was when it was time to replace the original tires, I found a set of TRD OR wheels from another member. Paid $125 for them and they really look good on the truck. The painted grille, the wheels, a set of 265/70x16 Firestones! And a set of N-Fab Rock rails are all I've done to the exterior of my truck. I've not de-badged or plasti-dipped anything, and other than the thin silver pinstripes down the belt line of the truck, it's all black. It's simple..it's clean...and it brings a smile to my face everytime I walk outside to get into it. I have to admit that I want a set of fog lights, and then I'm finished...maybe.

That's somewhat the thought process I'm on, as well. Very first addition to the truck was a roll up cover and a tailgate lock. And unlike you, I think I'm 85% sure I'll be steering clear of a lift. My immediate goal right now is SR8s and S/T MAXXs. Until that goal is accomplished, nothing else will be spent on for the truck.

I don't think we'll ever be finished, papi. Haha! I may not want a lift like I've mentioned above, but who knows, I may want that a year or two from now. And like you, I plan on adding sliders and a plate bumper after more research tells me that my mileage won't be identical to that of a V8's.

    Don't forget though,

The wrong tires and wheels can absolutely ruin the image of a vehicle. Whether a Porsche or a Tacoma...

The steel wheels aren't bad at all and the right tires can really make a truck look sportier and more fun.

Case in point, not my truck but a nice RC with just white letters out with a larger tire.

    Looks awesome!

I'm really liking those FJ 17s!

Been researching the 265 version in a 17" wheel as there are more "C" rated tires in that size for some reason. I like the six spokes and the way it compliments the lines of the AC extra door and such.

I might not go aft the rims I want and search for these instead.

That's the thing, though. Like Casper66 said, appearance is really subjective. If it was me judging the picture above, the white letters are the first thing I notice 'cause I wouldn't want them on my tires. Which make it really hard for me 'cause the tires I want don't seem to have a pure black side wall.

I got a set of 5 for $350, so I couldn't pass that up. I prefer the FJ wheels with the round holes in them, but these aren't bad. I currently have 255/75/17s but will be trying 285/70/17s on the next set.

Subjective is correct. I grew up in the 70s and 80s driving muscle cars and 4WDs. Whitewalls and raised white letters were the style. I still like a classic car with whitewalls and like white letters. At least most tires with white letters have a black wall side you can choose from.
