I love shock myths. This one comes from someone trying to explain digressive vs progressive valving. To you in the driver seat, there ain't much difference. I bet if I blind folded you, you wouldn't be able to guess the brand from the ride. Any 2.5" shocks with half way reasonable valving is going to ride like butter man. Pick shock brands the old fashioned way, by their color! lol. That said I run King bypass shocks right next to Icon's on the front of my taco. It's kind of like a couch with a steering wheel.

Hell yes Kings, Icons or Fox's will ride better than brand new OME or bilstein. Depends if you want a resi or not, and color.
And not even Icon long travel coil overs are digressively valved...

Yup totally agree. Well said... They're all great quality between the three. Personally I would go Kings if I do more off roading and less daily driving and icons/fox vice versa.

I run Radflo's in the rear of my Tacoma, OME on the landcruiser, and Fox on the Chevy. They are all great shocks for their intended purpose.

I mean they are all good but there are things I don't like about each of them.
For me I don't like that Icon uses a 13" spring versus 14", and they use SAE hardware when everything else on our trucks is metric. Not sure if its just us, but I went to @Tayoflor's house yesterday to crank his coil overs up, they were impossible to turn. A month ago brand new they were easy. Now a year later my Kings are just as easy to turn as the day I got them, so not sure if its the coating they use or what
And for fox you have to clear coat them so they don't rust/corrode and can handle the weather. Also by looking at the internal pics when I was looking at coil overs, the inners weren't as strong. Those pics were sent to me by ADS.
King I don't like that they don't offer a non-resi version for 2nd gens, and wish they made a 2.0 rear shock instead of just 2.5"..

But they will all get the job done and ride very similar, can't go wrong overall.

Is there any down side to having resis other than not really needing it?

More points for failure maybe? I've never seen one fail though so I'd say no.

I will be. If I go +2 it'll be around the end of July, if I go 3.5" it'll be in fall.

You're probably not at that point yet, but my brother is looking to get into a TRD Pro. He has an '09 TE Silver-grey color, 66k miles, CBI front bumper, OME springs front, spacer rear. Remote start, clear bra. I honestly don't think this rig has ever been off road. Spent most of it's life in Western Montana. Currently in South Carolina but don't think it would be an issue to get back here. Very nice rig.

I vote 2.5. Yeah Im that guy :) For the type of off-roading I know you do and our local trails I just dont see the advantage of

Where does Icon use SAE stuff? Internally? Cause mounting the front coilovers uses the same stuff as stock and same with rear.
Icon does come with a 13" 650lb spring. King comes with a 14" 600 pound spring dont they? So just different ways to skin a cat. Both offer a 14" 700lb spring though.

But as Ive always said. Blindfold a man and put him randomly in a truck where he doesnt know what setup the truck has and most people wont tell a different between king/fox/icon. Now between Those three and OME/Bilstein....maybe.
