    Is this serious?

"The main reason I'm this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning."

Bet Saban sits them for a couple practices as "punishment".

It's serious, as far as I can tell. The guy is literally saying, "I don't want to ruin their lives. They're football players."

    I'm sure I'd have more of a problem with it if I weren't a Bammer. I know I wear Crimson-colored glasses, BUT...

It's believable that Cam didn't know the gun was stolen, so why throw the book at him for that? And they didn't hurt anybody.

I think a LOT of people are watching to see what Saban does with them. It should be interesting.

    Unacceptable.

I have a tendency to not wear the glasses.

Saban better kick him off the team, or I will lose quite a bit of respect for him. I don't care if he is a beast. He did some stupid shit, jeopardizing this season, and has.

I smell something stinky. I really hope this doesn't raise its ugly head in the future. Bama was already close to the death penalty once, don't need it again, especially during the run of success they've had.

Hell, I sweat at work all the time. I'll use that excuse next time I get pulled over for something.

That is honestly the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

If he honestly didn't know the gun was stolen, the whole incident is less of a big deal. But, I'm willing to bet, if I have something that's been stolen, and I'm caught with it, I'm getting charged with possession of stolen property. Because no one knows who I am.

This is the kind of stuff that gives these big name players the mindset that they can do whatever they want and never face repercussions.

I'm really kind of sick to my stomach over it. So far, this is just the crooked State DA of Louisiana. Like I said, hopefully Alabama's hands are clean of this gross oversight, and it doesn't come back up down the road. Hopefully, Saban does the correct thing.

Kicking him off the team is a drastic overreaction. He's a first-time offender who did a stupid thing. He didn't hurt anybody. Believe him or not, he claims he doesn't know the gun was stolen. I can't/won't defend the pot, but nobody gets kicked off of teams for minor possession anyway.

Look. He was in a closed park, with drugs (I'm not concerned about the weed...whatever), illegal possession of a hand gun (no LTCH or permit), Possession of stolen property (doesn't matter if he knew or not) and you cant possibly tell me he was out there for the betterment of the community.

The fact that the DA is on video, saying " I refuse to ruin the lives of these men, because they were working hard as teens on a football field sweating while we were sleeping in our air conditioning" is fucking.bull.shit.

My ass was out working in hay fields and spent on basketball courts all day long, ALL DAY LONG sweating and working hard to better myself. You telling me this DA is gonna let me off of those same fucking charges because I bailed hay and played basketball?

I'm not sure. But, that's what I deal with basically every damn day living on the Ga/Tn line.

Probably not because you bailed hay and played basketball. Maybe if he couldn't make a strong case, which he also said in his statement. You can't throw somebody in jail for something you think they might do... They weren't there for the good of the community, but they hadn't harmed anybody, so my statement still stands.

I agree that the DA's comment was absurd. He's a moron for saying it.

I still don't think the kids should be kicked off the team. I'd feel the same way if they were boogs.

EDIT: Here's an article by Dan Wetzel. He lays it all out pretty well. Summary: the DA was a DA, but prosecution wasn't worth it.

Whether or not the individuals KNEW the property was stolen is irrelevant. Stolen property crosses state lines, all the time. As a matter of fact, its usually the first thing thieves do with stolen property. Move it to a different state as quickly as possible, if you cant sell it immediately. Possession of stolen property isn't inclusive to whether its still in the same damn state it was stolen from.

I'm telling you right now, this shit stinks to high heaven of foul play.

    Hope nobody smells it, then.

The DA had two guns in the car, one of which was stolen. He had four people in the car, and couldn't draw a clear connection between any of them and the stolen property or the drugs. Prosecution was going to be difficult. Maybe they move forward against a group of nobodys instead of high-profile, football-playing first-time offenders. Maybe not.

Any lawyers on here? I know that legally there is no difference between knowingly possessing stolen property and possession without knowledge, but it seems that if you claim not to know and it is reasonable that you didn't know, AND you cooperated and gave up the stolen property, you're not going to have your ass kicked by the law. If a cop showed up at my house and told me that the TV I purchased on Craigslist was stolen, I seriously doubt he'll haul my ass away in cuffs if I give it back. I wouldn't buy a gun like that, but I would hope that the same would be true in that case.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe every case of stolen propert results in massive jail time and, unless you play football, your life is ruined by even touching stolen property.

The driver of the vehicle is responsible. Period. This comes up every time cops find illegal stuff in vehicles. Nobody claims it. Nobody knows how it got there. Responsibility falls to the driver of the vehicle. As the driver, you are responsible for everything inside it, and everything that goes on inside it. That is unless, a passenger claims responsibility.

Well I certainly hope nothing more comes of this. There will be jokes and criticism, and it certainly appears to be deserved. I hope there's nothing real for the NCAA (or anybody else) to find.

I also hope Cam and Hootie stay the hell out of trouble now. I'm pretty forgiving and I'm OK with Saban's track record of 2nd chances. I don't like 3rd/4th/5th chances.

And another thing, I'm not gonna come on here and be biased, because these guys are Alabama players.

Jameis Winston raped that girl, and fucking stole those crab legs. He should have been prosecuted.

Cam and Hootie put themselves in a compromising situation through bad choices as ADULTS.
