Hey guys, need a little advise here. Towards the middle of May 2016 i wanted to start my truck and let it run for a few minutes because i knew i was going to be down for awhile after surgery. At first it didnt want to start and all i heard was a clicking sound when i would turn the key over. After about 5-10 min it finally started. About 3 weeks after surgery I tried to start it again to get the fluids moving and well, to hear it because i miss driving my truck. It has a 4" lift so it pretty loud and monsterous sounding. Anyways, i kept hearing the same clicking from the first time but this time it would not crank over....just heard the click. It has a brand new battery (which I tested to make sure it wasnt bad or dead) and it checked out fine. I did find the clicking noise is coming from the starter. SO, does it seem as I need to replace the starter? Or is there a trick i can do? My surgery was on my neck so popping the clutch isnt an option at his point.

Sounds like a starter issue. Mine started going out a week after I bought the truck last year and eventually caves a couple weeks later. If you have a 2WD it's an effortless job, 4WD with the CV in the way is a bit more tricky. Since you just had surgery a dealership shouldn't charge more than like $180 to get it done.

its not the starter, its the starter solenoid. Ill venture to say your truck has quite a few miles on it. Anyway, the contact points are burnt and are not allowing current to pass. All you have to do is replace the contacts. I got mine on eBay for 10$. harder part is getting to the starter.

The engine has been replaced and according to my private seller it only has 5000 miles on it. probably 10,000 now. Dont know if the starter was changed too. Im guessing now it wasnt. thanks for your advise. very helpful
