    What are you doing tomorrow morning? :D With the OGT not roadworthy due to shot out rear wheel bearings and the Black Horse deader than dammit, Rick and I don't have a truck between us. We're going to be trying to haul a full set of 35x12.50s in a freakin' Chevy hybrid sedan. :facepalm:I still haven't wrapped my head around how that's gonna happen. I'm dubious as to whether we can even shoe horn even one into the thing. We'll probably end up hauling them to his house one at a time, haha...this on top of my tools and floor jack...plus I'm giving him a couple of tires to put on the truck after we take his fancy ones off which I'm not sure are going to fit in the car.o_O

    Anyone here have any experience with plumbing? We're getting ready to tackle our master bath which is original to the build date. My neighbors have told me it has copper plumbing, and kind of hinted at me hiring a contractor. I can usually hold my own with remodeling, but now they have me 2nd guessing myself lol. We want to remove and replace the tub, but the plumbing is what has me worried. Is this something I can tackle myself. The new tub has the same specs are far as the drain side etc.

    Edit: the previous owner was an older lady who painted the tub a few times and is now sort of peeling. We thought about just getting it refinished and not have to worry about plumbing but cost would be very similar to hire someone to refinish it or replace it ourselves. The tub we have now is cast iron.

    The drains shouldn't be copper. The supply lines might be, but unless you're comfortable with sweating in joints with a torch, then a contractor might be the way to go, at least for the pipes...unless you don't have to do anything with the supply lines. I mean they probably aren't sweated into the valve(s) so if you're just changing the valve and not rerouting anything then you should be okay. The drain is probably just PVC or iron, or that would be my guess, but I'm by no means a professional and have minimal experience with that sort of plumbing work.

    That's what I was thinking. I'm not rerouting anything and figured the drains would be pvc which I'm comfortable with. I plan to leave the drain and overflow where they are and reattach them into the new tub. If I need to make any small adjustments it should only be near the drain or overflow which should be pvc. Correct?

    That'd be my guess. I've never seen a copper drain pipe (edit: well unless it was a decorative p-trap or something). The ones in my house are threaded iron and the stuff I saw when I was working with new construction houses were all PCV.

    (edit 2: mind you, when I was working in new construction houses, I was pre-wiring for alarms, sound, and such, so I wasn't working with the plumbing.)

    If it's an older place chances are the valve is sweated on. If your just changing the tub and keeping the old value you will be fine. If your replacing it then you need to cut it out and sweat the new one in. Are you changing tile too? If you are, demo it out and set your tub and with the wall open have a plumber cut it out and install your new one. I did this with one of our properties with my plumber.

    Well, We're going to get a bit of an early start. Rick is coming over to pick me up around 0600, but we're probably not going to get rolling on the truck until around 8-ish or so...depends on when the place opens and we have access to his truck.     Haha, more like going to the glue factory. :eek: Not sure what all factors they considered before they totaled it, but the driver front suspension is all folded up along with the cab being shifted over about an inch and some body mount damage that looked minor, but who knows how tweaked the frame is. Bottom line is they didn't think they could fix it and guarantee there wouldn't be any issues down the road, so rather than Rick bringing the truck back 80 times to fix this and that, they just cut their losses, I suppose.
