Bishop to flames, Wideman to leafs. Thoughts?

 

Was also thinking Bernier gets 2 mil bonus soon then leafs retain 50% which leaves him with a 1 mil cap hit. That's quite low for what Bernier is and a solid backup

 

Are these theories? I would think so since nothing is announced.

Bishop to the Flames only works if he will agree to a contract there. Otherwise it's not worth having first crack at him this late in the game. Everyone will be allowed to talk to him by Saturday anyways. The only party that benefits from a trade in that case is Tampa, so Calgary won't pay anything near what they probably want out of that right to talk.

Wideman to the Leafs is a TERRIBLE idea. The Leafs already have Riley to run the powerplay and Gardiner is also an offensive type Dman. Wideman is barely a Dman let alone someone who will make the Leafs better defensively. Wideman is exactly the type of Dman the Leafs need no more of. The Leafs need more speedy stay at home type players on defense. Those are the only type of Dmen the Leafs should be looking at.

 

I'm confused here. Are you saying buyout or something else?

I'd think the Canucks would have a fair shot at him but do they want a big body who is only a marginal upgrade to their offense? I don't think he fits their plans.

 

I know lots of Oilers fans that have a big woody for him. But I see his career on the decline....and hope they stay clear of him!!

 

Hard to imagine a rebuilding team would want him. Depending on the price, he seems like a good score for a team reloading. He would look good in Philly frustrating Crosby next April in the first round of the playoffs.

 

No, they pay him his bonus on July 1st and then deal him. Retain 50% ?( the max) and the new team only pays him 1 mil salary. Thats pretty cheap

2. Wideman is actually a decent depth guy, and Im suggesting a salary dump. Something like Bozak, Lupul, etc.

I don't think there is any magic trick with Bernier. Unless someone wants him at his current cap hit we are going to have to keep him. A buyout makes no sense though with one year left.

Nothing to do with cap, its about cash. More teams care about cash these days then cap hit. Look at the Phaneuf deal. A team would not mind Bernier at a cap hit of 2-3 mil and cash of 1 mil. Hes not that bad a goalie
