Probably because Toyota quality has been slipping.

JD Power is a joke and a scam and a bunch of baloney. Do some research and find out what a joke they are. Their information means nothing, just an example of good marketing.

A bunch of bought out bologna. I test drove the GM twins and the pale in comparison to even the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas. IMO

Plus this is only initial quality, no long term stats out yet. Nothing to fret about here.

Yea, they seem even less trustworthy than Consumer reports. I thought you guys would get a kick out of it. I won't be going to buy a Kia any time soon.... even though it seems they don't suck quite so bad anymore.

I would think a slip in initial quality would be expected in initial model year. No surprise here

The difference between many vehicles in this report is so small that i would believe it is statistically insignificant. I dont think I would rate a vehicle with a sample of 92 promlems per 100 vehicles over one with 100 problems. Stating a conclusion that the 92 is superior is irresponsible. There should have been a lot more info with this study. A confidence interval. Like we are 99 percent confident that car A will have between 91 and 99 problems per 100 vehicles. Been a while since i had stat.

My wife worked at Kia dealerships for the past 5 years until she moved to a Toyota store. We've had 3 Kias - a Soul, a Sedona and a Sorento. All of them have been comfortable vehicles with zero problems. We outgrew the Sorento and moved to the van and we've loved it. The back seats have a flip-out foot rest and recline almost flat so the kids can sack out while the adults drive through the night. Our 10-hour trip to Disney was nice and smooth. No complaints about Kia. With the notoriety they're getting, the price will only go up.

Oh yeah, story is Lebron drove a K900 then called Kia to seek a deal because he loved the car. Don't know if that's true of not. Bottom line is Kia is a good car, made in Georgia or Alabama (one is Huyndai, one is Kia).

Initial quality perception is poorly calibrated and highly biased. The metrics involved in any type of quality survey determine the results. Pre-select specific performance variables to be judged and you will have one outcome, accept random comments about anything and you get a different result.

People are not dependable reviewers when left to evaluate with no predetermined parameters. In general the public has a horrible understanding of applying a standard to any type of test. Give the same person two cars to evaluate and this becomes clear, they will unwittingly move the standard higher for an expensive car. They will be very critical of a $100,000 luxury sedan. But a reasonably priced Korean car will get praised because they expect it to be a cheap piece of crap and are surprised when it's a decent car.

Over time the shine comes off the cheap Korean car. Not that it is a piece of crap, more the realization that it's merely OK. The luxury sedan's engine and suspension performance, quiet comfortable interior, resistance to developing a dozen or more weird rattles that cheaply made cars suffer from become more appreciated over time. The cost-to-performance value is hard to calibrate and must be ignored for these purposes, but it rarely is.

So predictable. If the review says it's awesome most members commend it and agree. If the review points out negatives, it's instantly shunned. Shebudgets!!!!

Huyndai and Kia are the same as Toyota/Datsun/Honda of 35-40 years ago.
