    Hey now!

I have a little over 5k miles on my 2016 TRD Sport 2wd auto. and aside from a few issues that I've had, I do love this truck! The other day I was pulling into the back driveway of a mall and heard a crunching sound. I thought that maybe the tires were rubbing on something in the wheel well but they weren't. The angle of the entrance was steep enough that the truck rocked side to side.

I brought it to the dealer and the lead mechanic went with me so he could hear the noise. He said that he was pretty sure that it was the ABS system and that it was working correctly. In the 38 years of driving I have never heard anything like this. It only happens when the truck pitches like that and it is a delayed, meaning that the noise occurs a second after the truck starts to pitch.

Anyone else get this sound? It doesn't sound right to me..

    Thanks!

    Larry

Yeah, no other car i've had ever made a sound like this. It's very similar to when I go up a steep driveway diagonally on a Subaru AWD vehicle. Makes a crunchy grinding sound. Subaru guys know what i'm talking about.. But on the Subie, it's the center diff.

Mine did exactly the same thing. Completely dry day, driveway approach at about 45 degrees to a "full right" turn, and Grrrrruuuunnnncccchhhhhhh! A horrible sound on a car that had only 5K miles on it. Now and then I hear it again during the exact same type of traction loss situation.

Do you need to know, or care?
It sounds like all hell broke loose. Hit some black ice a while back and it freaked me out, but it did its job. There's some videos on YouTube of guys with the TRD OR's using their crawl control on down hills, essentially the same system but if you want to hear what sounds like the whole truck coming apart watch a couple of those. In the end the sound is normal for the ABS.

Most off roading i do is on the beach, and driving in the sand, where there's other people tire tracks it does it all the time. Mainly, while turning the wheel when pulling out of deep grooves in the sand...it scared the hell out of me the first time it happened but i was way to excited about the new truck to think anything was wrong with it, glad to officially here it is the norm!
